Re: Allergy/Pollen Count

...Don't like them? Cut a ripe one in half, remove the stone, put a teaspoon of brown sugar in each 'depression' and top-up with Metaxa. Then eat with a spoon! Delicious. Bob That does raise a serious philosophical question, Bob. If you eat them like that for breakfast would that class as "dri...

Re: Allergy/Pollen Count

Almost all the Avocados on sale in the Heraklion area have signs saying they're from Chania, Crete. I haven't seen any on sale from Israel. I actually prefer the ones that aren't from Crete, I find them rock hard, and they tend not to ripen very well. Quite likely from one of my friends' `garden' -...

Re: Allergy/Pollen Count

Quite a lot of citrous groves around me have been turned over to avocados. No money in citrous fruit at all. There is some picking but many groves just let the oranges fall on the floor and rot. Warwick True. The Vale of Kalyves, for want of a better term, is a very fertile area and is full of citr...

Re: Allergy/Pollen Count

In the uk I suffered terrible allergies from rapeseed, in Crete, it’s the flowers on the olive trees, and there’s millions here, although currently many olive groves are now sadly being pulled up and replaced by avocados, it’s where the money is I guess...at the moment. I tried ‘quercetin’ last yea...

Re: Britons urged to travel to Greece this summer

For us personally, my family have already committed to 2 weeks quarantine in a hotel or at our home in Crete this summer - in the hope that there is a second wave of the virus in September and my daughters can stay in Crete and not return to school...... Under the still current regulations, don't f...

Re: Coronavirus, what happens next

In my post above, a bit got missed out in copying. So read the first post and then this: On May 11, senior high schoolers will be able to return to their classes and all retail stores will reopen and on May 17 churches will be allowed to resume services and sacraments, but will have to adhere to str...

Re: Coronavirus, what happens next

The scientists are informing the government but they are not telling the government what they should do. That was made pretty clear yesterday when the Chief Medical Officers of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England were answering questions at the Science Select Committee. They seem to speak...

Re: Coronavirus, what happens next

The really depressing thing about the UK is that there don't seem to be any politicians in the Government who can even begin to comprehend what it is all about, much less have ideas on how to phase in a return to whatever brand of 'normality' we end up with. The mantra 'we are guided by the science'...

I think you still have to prove its your main residence, which obviously it isn't. A recent local case suggests that 'No Residence permit, no admission to Crete (or any other of the islands). You can't get on a plane in Athens bound for Crete (or a ferry, come to that) without a residence permit sh...
