Re: postal service

Hi. Has anybody heard any up to date information with regard to our postman no longer covering the villages of Drapanos, Kokkino Xorio, Kefalas Vamos, etc.? We understood he was due to finish at the end of March but he was granted continual work to the end of April and from then on we would have to...

Re: Damaged telephone socket after electric storm

On the very few occasions I've had a problem with a phone line here the OTE engineers have been the personification of helpfulness every time. I can echo that. A year or two ago there was an unexpected storm that affected Kokkino Horio. No phone or internet! Rang the cosmote number and told them. E...

Re: Hose pipe ban ?

we regularly see people hosing down the pavement/ road in front of their house, never understood why. Probably to clean it  When we first came here I asked several people why they hosed down the road and they all had the same explanation. If there's dust on the road traffic stirs it up and it ...

Re: Icome Tax 2017

We have not had to provide paperwork of any kind, including receipts, to our accountant for at least the last 4 years. As pensioners with no income arising in Greece, we were told not to bother. So we haven't! Bob.

Re: Large ship of the Northern tip of Theodora Island to the North west of Chania

If it's moored then it's still time sensitive insofar as the ships give out position information usually every few minutes. The only reasons I've encountered for ships being visible to the naked eye but not showing on the map are that they're military or have military connections. Some, mainly US s...

Re: Roman Catholic Easter service in Irareptra

Reply from the priest in Chania:
In Ierapetra we don’t have a Church but only a “Pastoral Center” (Saint Paul’s Pastoral Center, address: Minoos & Manou Katraki, tel. 2842028102). This is a building that we use for prayer and other activities.

Hope that helps. Bob.

That link is real-time-sensitive so unlikely to be of any use now. Certainly can't see anything there now. Bob.

Re: Roman Catholic Easter service in Irareptra

I thought the Polish catholic community around Ierapetra was served by Polish catholic priests in a small church there but have asked Fr. Luca in Chania for more info which I will pass on when he replies. Bob.

Re: Apothiki construction: tax??

Good advice Glenn. Also, despite building yourself you may find you have to pay EOPPY (aka IKA) some money for the social security payments you would have had to pay a workman! Sounds daft, but that used to be the law. Worth checking that out too. Bob

Re: Uk/Crete Postal Service

I rather fancy the idea of about 150 people from the Kokkino Horio, Plaka, Kambia, Drapanos, Paleloni, Vamos and other villages all turning up at the post office in Vrysses demanding to see if there is any mail for them. Every day for a week. That would soon sort things out. On reflection though, pe...
