Re: Cyprus or Crete ?

Dear Cyprusman Warwick has given you some good advice which we would echo. He said ' Please don't misunderstand me. I am not trying to put you off coming to Crete. It is truly a magical place and I have no wish to live anywhere else but it is important to come with your eyes open. It may sound commo...

Re: Life with a pacemaker

Ah. Not thinking clearly. Of course if it is super conducting it will be self sustaining and the only way to stop it would be to raise the temperature above the superconducting temperature. I think there are some pacemakers that are certified for exposure to MRI scanners but I don't know the detail...

Re: DEYAAN account number

I think that previous payments are only saved if you tell it to do so, Bob. Also on my water bill the payment code changes with every bill, unlike ΔΕΗ and COSMOTE that stay the same so a previous number may not help. Warwick With things like that (utility bills on-line) I probably did tell the bank...

Re: Piraeus Bank ATM Withdrawal Charge

Slightly off topic but related: I pay the phone bill on-line through Alpha Bank and last time, for the first time I was charged €0.30 for the privilege! Bob.

Re: DEYAAN account number

Thanks, Warwick. That was the number I thought it was but NBG keep insisting its wrong! Have tried every number that looks likely on the bill with same results. I asked Greek friends who told me its not possible to pay online and to go to the post office but I know I've done it before and it quite ...

Re: Storm Clouds.

'Take back control' is almost as much a mantra as 'I have been perfectly clear'. Take back control of our laws: This is from the BBC News June 2016, just before the Referendum. 'According to the House of Commons Library, which itself concedes that there is no completely accurate way to make the calc...

Communictions ability

This from the Guardian: More than a quarter of children starting primary school are unable to communicate in full sentences as concerns grow about the amount of time they are spending in front of screens, the education secretary will say in his first major speech on social mobility. For a moment the...

Re: Storm Clouds.

I blame the whole thing on bad grammar, in particular the misuse of a single conjunction. Every part of the leave campaign said that if the UK left the EU it could: 1 Stop paying into the EU budget 2 Stop implementing EU laws 3 Stop being under ECJ jurisdiction 4 Stop free movement of people 5 Ente...

Re: Storm Clouds.

Could you not see that you MIGHT have to return?? But..., but..., but that would require intelligence and foresight, surely? :D Ouch! How rude can you get???? Could I gently point out, please, that many of us have no vote in the UK any longer, despite being UK taxpayers, having passed the 15-year r...

Re: Storm Clouds.

Exactly so, Warwick, which is why these "what if" scare stories peddled by sections of the UK media are just that. The othe r EU member states have a far bigger stake in avoiding the sort of problems Brian is quoting, because they have so many more of their citizens in the UK than we do i...

Re: Storm Clouds.

Don't worry! Mrs May is going to take over direct negotiations with Barnier according to Sky News, so the Utopia that the UK voted for will appear and the 'will of the British people ' will be upheld. And Santa will be down your chimney on Dec 25th, but with flying pigs rather than reindeer!!! Bob.

Re: Museum Fire

The truly criminal aspect of the tragedy is the failure of successive Greek governments to address properly the issue of summer wildfires in the country. It's a known, annual problem which has been dogged by maladministration, apathy and corruption. It's not an excuse, nor necessarily implying an a...

Re: Santander Debit Card

I am advised that one possible solution is to offer to pay a relative's (say) water bill and have your name put down as the payer. Then you can produce a water bill with your name and your relative's (but they don'e know that) address. Mmmmmmmm?
