Re: Lidl's

I've been caught out again! I forgot that Sunday, being the 1st of May had its Bank Holiday status on Monday and its on Tuesday. No doubt I shall be visiting the "Corner shop on the straight" - the ever open shop on the Omalos Road

Re: A Lesson for the Leaders of Europe?

Bill Wilson, who creted the biggest Sunday School in the World in one of the roughest areas of America had a motto: "Won by one". It has a general priciple that each one of us can do something and this story tells what one person has done. How many of we comfortable expats would do the sam...

Re: Easter Saturday/Sunday Catholic cathedral, Chania

I am not sure how exclusively relying on the Bible isolates you from the influence of the established churches since the Bible is simply a collection of manuscripts that the established church of the day decided would be included? I believe that the Bible is the living Word of God. Thus, when I stu...

Re: Easter Saturday/Sunday Catholic cathedral, Chania

The date of Easter has been in dispute for some hundreds of years when one group adopted a different calendar from another. To a Christian of any "flavour", the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus is vital to his or her faith such that, to many, it is the most important event of all...

Re: clock

Or, as in the case of the clock in my car, you have to leave it an hour slow until the car goes in for service because the stupid menu system is too difficult to use - or rather, for me to use. What was wrong with the button thing you twisted to move the hands. Clocks should have hands not digital l...

Windows 10 automatic update from 7 or 8.1

A friend discovered that her computer was being updated to Windows 10 and was locked for several hours. On the same day, I received an email giving advice what to do, quoting this site|: http://enews.download.com/ct/34213236:WoEvfWCNi:m:1:680279117:2AC8093BB07257C0AD56A9BE6D6AF831:r I have not tried...

Re: Parking at Chania Bus Station

On the road parking is readily available in my road. People coming from some distance into Chania might like to park outside my house and let me drive them into town, picking up for the return trip when cell-phoned. I used to do this for friends in Tavronotis. Please PM and I'll give you my cell pho...

Re: Parking at Chania Bus Station

Actually, I live not a million miles from Lidl and DEH. For shopping in town, the sensible thing would be to catch a local bus on the hospital route but sense loses out to convenience. My query was not because I want to catch a bus but because parking at the bus station would be very convenient for ...

Re: A Place in the Sun (winter sun)

I remember laughing when the air hostess announced that we were coming in to land at Charnia - I thought about C.S.Lewis! My brother always pronounced it Charnia despite being corrected. The only Christmas cards that got through this year were addressed to Charnia. I used to have a bath not a barth ...

Caught out again!

Off to the shops this morning. Got a clue with the minimal traffic on the main road. Drove into the garage - closed. So was Lidl and Carrefore.
Yet another holiday when everything is closed!

Any suggestions how I can ensure I don't get caught our again?

Re: Indian Herbs and Spices

Years ago when I still lived in UK, I hosted an Indian bishop. We talked about food and he said his wife used a special blend for curry. The next time he came he brought me what his wife used. It was in a packet and readily available in UK supermarkets! Big dissapointment. I like curry flavour but n...
