Medicinal Herbs

I know nothing about medicinal herbs but after bowel surgery, I want to know about their medicinal value.

Can anyone recommend a good book?

Being the opposite of green fingered, I don't want to know how to grow them

Cosmote Mobil Bill

Since having a landline installed, I no longer get paper bill for the mobile. I get a very clear SMS from OTE which enables me to pay the bill through the Bank but the Cosmote one does not give the payment code (it seems to try to force you to use their payment method) Various trips to the office ha...

Re: Yellow arrows on the road

Saw white arrows today. They have very long tails. I got to a junction and there were arrows pointing both ways.

Re: Crete driving is appalling !

My 10 year-old car has many scrapes and dents most of which occurred while I was parked. In the 10 years before I left England, I had 3 accidents which were not my fault and each car was written off. My advice to drivers here is to remember that the other driver has to get to wherever he is going fa...

Re: Lamps on poles

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately, illness prevented many joining our carol singing so the event had to be cancelled. However, I will certainly follow up and prepare the lanterns ready for next year - although they may be used before then to light night-time barbecues

Lamps on poles

I am looking for "carol singers" poles with lights on them, presumably battery operated. The last time I saw them in use was in UK some 15 years ago and the lights were candles, they being for decoration because street lights were sufficient to see song-sheets. If I were DIY-able, I am sur...

Re: Peeling chestnuts

I thought that there would be an answer out there!!! I'll try boiling and microwave although I seem to remember exploding chestnuts in the microwave. Indeed, after roasting in the oven, they were dry. What would you use chestnut puree* for? Anyone tried the glace* ones that appear at Christmas in so...

Peeling chestnuts

I was given a great recipe for mushroom and chestnut casserole the other day so I went out and bought the chestnuts. The recipe said to cut a cross in the flat part of the chestnut and roast them in the oven for 20 minutes. After they had cooled down, I tried to peel off the brown shell and there th...

Dual speed limit?

On the National Road, East of Chania, is a very strange speed limit sign. It has red-ringed 60 indicating a maximum speed of 60 but immediately below it is a 50-limit disc. What does this sign mean?

Re: smart phone app dictionary

Thanks everyone.

I guess it's going to be a long slog. I need to find an English speaking Greek 12-year old (remembering the advice we got with video players)

Re: smart phone app dictionary

Thanks everyone - obviously what I want is available so now I have to decide which smart phone to buy. People have mentioned "Android". please excuse my ignorance but I assume Android is like an operating system and so applications for Android would not work on another system - and what is...

smart phone app dictionary

I think a phone is something to make phone calls on but the modern smart phone seems to be a small computer and so far I have resisted getting one. However, I have seen people with all sorts of useful applications and the thing that would pursuade me to get a smart phone is if I could download a Gre...
