Re: smart phone app dictionary

Thanks everyone.

I guess it's going to be a long slog. I need to find an English speaking Greek 12-year old (remembering the advice we got with video players)

Re: smart phone app dictionary

Thanks everyone - obviously what I want is available so now I have to decide which smart phone to buy. People have mentioned "Android". please excuse my ignorance but I assume Android is like an operating system and so applications for Android would not work on another system - and what is...

smart phone app dictionary

I think a phone is something to make phone calls on but the modern smart phone seems to be a small computer and so far I have resisted getting one. However, I have seen people with all sorts of useful applications and the thing that would pursuade me to get a smart phone is if I could download a Gre...

Walkers on the National Road

As I drove last evening along the National Road between Chania and Kalives, I passed many people in small groups and singles walking but not in "normal" hikers gear. I made a mental note to be very careful when I returned in the dark. Sure enough, in the dark, there were more walkers, some...

Re: Refugees

Just imagine. A foreign power decides to take over Crete. Daily, towns such as Chania are bombed and many are rendered homeless. Many are killed and there are many orphans. OK, we ex pats can return to UK but imagine you are a Cretan with two young children. You decide to flee the danger and accept ...

Re: Do you live in west Crete?

Apokorunas - or Little England as I used to call it - is NOT Western Crete: there's ton's more. Chania is the West's biggest town and is an excellent place to live either in the old quarters or on the outskirts with either sea or mountain views or both. I can't recommend the tourist towns (villages?...

Re: A3 Printing

You could try what we know as "eleni's" which is on the street from the court square to town. It is a large stationery shop that supplies school stuff but we have had printing from a PDF on a USB stick and A3 printing (but not together). Now is a good time to try before half the town's mot...

Re: Proxy BBC I player

I regularly access the BBC Radio site using Firefox. I do not have a VPN. I tried to play a programme and was told not available in my country. I have tried to play some Youtube clips (rugby) and some are refused. I have also tried to use Western Union on-line to send money from my UK bank to Nigeri...

Re: Corned Beef - Ouch

Thanks alansmithnl I will take the spec for a can opener to my local garage who I am sure will have two vices and a leaf spring or two. Meanwhile, Warwick, where do you get your corned beef from? I remember long ago getting packs of pre-sliced corned beef from Sainsbury's - so much easier but needed...

Corned Beef - Ouch

Sometimes, I long for a corned beef sandwich. Yesterday was such a time and I got the tin out of the cupboard. Why do all the manufacturers insist on using the rectangular tin that is opened with a key? As usual, opening failed when the strip of metal broke leaving the can partly opened. Much heavin...

Which phone and which scheme?

Soon, I will have to pay for my internet access. Currently I don't have a land line. Is there any company who will supply a deal to cover land line, internet and mobile phone. I call UK and Nigeria often and want it to be more frequent.
