Re: Slug pellet theft.

Slug pellets kill dogs and cats and other small animals... I know from experience...and some are flavoured to make them tasty. If you touch them wash your hands well, and please be careful.

Re: New EU Car registration rules

We have a duel registered car; black and chrome plates for the UK and red and white plates for Greece. Do we need both KTEO and MOT certificates?

moving from rural Spain to Crete

My suggestions would be to come to Crete around this time of year and take a trip around/across the island; then do the same trip in January or February -with any detours you've been prompted by on the first trip. That would give you a taste of the climate/ weather and the travel implications. One b...

New Land Tax

Ours, also, is almost half that for previous years. We've checked every item on it and they are all correct, so we're hoping that there won't be another email!

capital gains tax

We are tax residents in Greece and have been registered as such since 2011. We do not own any other property than the one we live in, here in Crete

capital gains tax

Yesterday's Ekathimerini set out the state of play for capital gains tax as of 1st January 2014 and I wondered if someone could clarify a couple of things for me. Is capital gains tax paid on the sale of a primary residence or only on the sale of 'second' homes or additional properties? Does the tax...

all I want is a prescription

I don't think anyone has chipped in with this so far but I may be wrong; one option for repeat prescriptions is your local KAPH. It's a meeting place for anyone over 57 (unless that has changed recently) run by the Demos and offering a social meeting place, fitness club, day trip and celebration eve...

Will it be possible to retire on this figure.

We were 'deemed' non-tax residents for 12 years and then last year we were asked to provide the certificate from the UK, hence the change. Same accountant, same house etc....so something else changed!

Will it be possible to retire on this figure.

We too are part of your 1% Kilkis...and as Greek tax residents are paying tax here on our our UK state pension -our only income. How do the other 99% get a UK tax residents'certificate to submit with their Greek tax return, assuming they own a house here and have to complete one? We were told by the...

Calor gas

We brought a Thurcroft gas stove with us to Crete from the UK, which has 7kg bottles. We have to use an adapter to have them filled. There is an Autogas station in Galatas-Daratsos, not far from Hania where we refilled until about 2 years ago when it became a problem. The gas station is no longer 'a...

Vodafone internet dongle

Ask in the village itself. We only have a few people with internet connection here, but they knew when the Vodafone 3G arrived and told me - I still had a Cosmote 2G but made a swift change! I agree you should try it - in the house they will live in - to check reception. I'd be happy to help out wit...

We have this happen regularly throughout the winter in our village too. Kilkis is right, it's maintenance or new installation etc. There are usually notices posted on the poles warning us. They are in Greek, but once you recognise them, if you don't read Greek, you can see the date and estimated tim...
