A long and interesting thread covering a lot of ground.

However, in my original posting I was wondering how the Greek authorities handle the situation when the holder of a UK driving license incurs penalty points or disqualification. Has anybody experienced this situation?

Speed cameras

This link from the Apokoronas news gives us a bit more information about the new speed cameras on the national road. The fines and penalties apparently include points and temporary loss of one's license. Does anyone know what happens when the offending driver has a UK (DVLA) license - as many of us ...

144 views and no takers. Come on guys, it's only the equivalent of a bit of loose change each week to help people who may not know where their next meal is coming from.

Sponsor a bag

Many of you will know of and support the activities of Χείρα Βοηθείας (Helping Hand). For those who do not, they are a group of people, ex-pats and Greeks, who try to help out those most badly hit by the economic situation in Greece. T...

We know someone who would take care of the dog. Not a kennels - the "guest dog" joins their dog as part of the family. We are very happy to use them. They are in Plaka.

We can also provide details of a small cattery in Fres.

Send me a PM if you would like contact details.

An interesting debate with good points on all sides. I would come down on the side of the rescue organisations because I know that the next time I am confronted with a desperate, neglected, abused, homeless cat or dog I will do whatever it takes to find it a good home. By the way, don't forget the o...

Thanks Bob and SatCure. I will pursue that line and report back when my tiles have been disposed of.

PS Bob, you have some responsibility for this; you helped me fix the roof. It's still sound by the way.

Talking of rubbish disposal and fly tipping; I have a few barrow loads of old roofing tiles which have been cluttering up my garden since I fixed my roof years ago. I am currently in de-cluttering mode and would like to ask the environmentalists amongst us how I am supposed to get rid of them.

Re: Will it be possible to retire on this figure.

We too are part of your 1% Kilkis...and as Greek tax residents are paying tax here on our our UK state pension -our only income. How do the other 99% get a UK tax residents'certificate to submit with their Greek tax return, assuming they own a house here and have to complete one? We were told by th...

My wife and I renewed our books without difficulty this morning at Souda. We joined the queue at 07.30 and walked out at 09.00. We were not asked to provide any documents or information. For those who normally rely on KEP to get this chore done it may be worth mentioning the rumour that the Vamos of...

A friend of ours called into the IKA office at Souda today to try to renew his book and avoid the chaos in February (remember last year?). He was told that it could not be done until mid February.

This sounds crazy. Can anyone confirm or deny it.
