Icaridin is the active ingredient in AUTAN which is the insect repellent most commonly seen in the shops here. It is supposed to avoid the side effects of DEET.

It seems to work where you put it but the little beggars are good at finding the gaps.

There is still the somewhat confusing issue of having a hand-written, signed but unwitnessed will kept in your house to cover any specifically Greek property (house, car etc). I am never sure just how legal this is and haven't actually heard of anyone who has 'tested the system' - i.e. by dying! Bo...

I'm sure that by now everyone knows what Samaras also said.

At least we now know that he is human.

Deadline for payment of electricity bills.

To avoid hassle with the tax office, the latest elecricity bills (including the final instalment of the special property tax for 2012) need to be paid by 21st June (18th if paying via a bank or post office).

That's interesting Bob. When did you apply? I applied for mine months ago ago when Kilkis first brought the subject up. I had almost given up hope. Sorry about the car by the way.

Chania hospital

A week or so ago I had the misfortune to pick up a nasty lung infection. As a result I have just been discharged after spending a week in Chania hospital. Since this forum is not infrequently used to winge about all things Greek, I wish to report that the treatment I received was beyond reproach. Th...

It's not going to make any difference to those who have lost their jobs and their homes but it must be a step in the right direction.

Not wishing to be grumpy but I'm not sure I like the description of a local community getting on with living their lives as "the antics of the locals" !!!

WW II Reperations

I'm inclined to think that this is a fantasy which will never produce the goods. Our leaders' time would be better spent concentating on real issues.

Cheer up

In the last few postings we have had complaints about weather forecasts, complaints about KEP and complaints about the service and price of coffee on Chania harbour. Come on guys; life’s too short; lighten up. Summer is round the corner and there's wine and beer in the fridge. If you want to know th...
