Re: Selling a property in Greece

Is it the tax authorities in Greece that makes the rules and not the elected politicians?

Re: property tax

When buying a house in Crete you have to expect charges in connection with the purchase of about 12 percent, everything included(lawyer, notary, statetax, VAT etc)

Propertytax, ENFIA, is for our house abt 650 euro per year.

Re: Tourist Tax

Not happy with destroying the economy it seems the government is now bent on destroying the tourist industry. From 1/1/2018 they are bringing in a tourist tax based on each room. No idea how this is to be collected or applied, but will be an interesting time. This is quite common, at least in most ...

Re: Lawyer - anybody knows him?

My experience is with houses about 15 km to the south west of Chania not in northern Greece. I haven't lived in northern Greece for almost 11 years. Do you think houses in Plaka, about 27 km to the east of Chania are that different from houses 15 km to the south west of Chania? Warwick As always, y...

Seriousely? Do you even consider that there may, repeat may, be a difference whether the house is in Plaka in Crete and a village in Northern Greece? Vow!

Re: Lawyer - anybody knows him?

Well if you want to base it purely on personal experience, every house that I know that has been sold in my area in the past couple of years the sellers have reduced the asking price by between 40 % and over 50 % in order to get a sale. The original asking price was about what they paid for it and ...

Re: Lawyer - anybody knows him?

Here is one line from a PWC report on the Greek housing market: " Since 2008 the number of housing transactions fell by 72%, while house prices fell by 41%, especially in the urban centers. " Another quite interesting statement in the conclusions on Page 40: " the supply and demand i...

...If you're referring to Takis' taverna in Plaka your memory's shorter than I thought; you were at a birthday celebration there late in January. Re: Lawyer - anybody knows him?

Plaka - good choice! Especially good for burglaries, I hear? It used to be called "Little England" but it seems to be changing to "Lille Norge". I'm not aware of burglaries being a problem in Plaka. It's a mix of English, Norwegians, some Sweedes, a few Germans and French...

Re: One toe in the swamp

Then you have been lucky. Many lawyers do not keep on top of the rapid changes in the tax code which have happened over the last few years while the good accountants do. That is not a criticism of those lawyers, since tracking tax code changes is not their primary job. Personally I would prefer to ...
