Re: Organ donation in Greece

As far as I know it is part of the public health system. Certainly the blood transfusion centres tend to be in public hospitals, e.g Chania General Hospital at Mournies. I don't know if the private hospitals have to pay for the units they use?

Re: Greek Business

As feedback on the €100 that you can claim back from IKA, discussed earlier in this thread, I got my bankbook updated today and discovered that the money I claimed back in February was paid into my account in mid August. A friend who claimed a few weeks before me also got his about the same time so ...

Re: Organ donation in Greece

Blood donors in the UK have a blood sample tested at every donation, for CJD, HIV, Hepatitis,... The last time I was involved with this issue was 2012. As far as I can tell the first accurate test for vCJD in blood was not developed until 2014. Certainly the Handbook of Transfusion Medicine publish...

Re: Organ donation in Greece

This is a Greece wide ban and it doesn't just apply to the British. Anybody of any nationality, including Greeks, who lived in the UK for more than a defined period between the proscribed dates cannot donate blood or organs because of the risk that they could be contaminated with the prion linked to...

Re: AFM - 2 quick questions

Getting the number is very easy. You give them the completed M1 form, your passport and a photocopy of your passport. Give them anything else they ask for, e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate etc. Job done. Giving you the number means that they have registered you with the tax authority BUT...

Re: AFM - 2 quick questions

...Or would you advise trying to stay tax resident in the UK, as far as the Greek authorities are concerned?... YES! ...I am meeting with George the accountant the day after I was going to try to get my AFM, so I suppose I can enlist his help if I'm having problems. Get advice from George FIRST . G...

Re: Greek Lessons or Books

...I'm also a big fan of reading children's books (I'm currently having a lot of fun working my way through the Mr Men series in Greek)... My late wife used to read the Κυρία Κλοκλό children's books, about an anthropomorphic cat, and that became her nickname amongst our friends in northern Greece. ...

Re: AFM - 2 quick questions

I tend to agree with Filippos, I would ask my accountant to do it for me. If you do go ahead and do it yourself you both need to fill in an M1 form and sign it. You can download it as a pdf here . For you to get your wife's form she will have to write a an authorisation on a "ΥΠΕΥΘΥΝΗ ΔΗΛΩΣΗ&qu...

Re: Greek Lessons or Books

A couple of additional comments on gender, Bob. Firstly, it isn't only a waste of time assigning gender to inanimate objects in some cases words do not have an appropriate gender. Κορίτσι is the Greek word for girl and grammatically its gender is neuter. In the UK and the USA a debate is getting goi...

If you are quick, Bob, before anybody posts something after it, you can delete the second post completely. Once somebody has added to the thread you can only delete the content using edit.
