New Technical Guidance Notes

The UK government issued a new set of technical guidance notes to advise people what will happen in the event of a no-deal Brexit. A couple of them are of relevance to UK ex-pats living in Greece: Travelling to the EU with a UK passport if there’s no Brexit deal . Currently, because the UK is part o...

Re: ENFIA 2018

Anybody can complete their own tax return on Taxisnet. You need your user ID and your password. You may have them already. If not your accountant should be able to supply them. Personally I would say that you need to be pretty fluent in Greek if you intend to do this and be well briefed in Greek tax...

Re: How to become a greek resident

I never filled in an application form for my permanent residence certificate nor did the last person I helped to get one. In both cases I just walked into the police station without an appointment and sorted it immediately. For my friend, we literally turned up at the relevant police station. I had ...

Re: How to become a greek resident

Not all police stations deal with residence certificates so it might not be the nearest one. You need to go into the appropriate one. Your nearest one should be able to tell you where that is. There is also an online application process which results in them telling you where to go, i.e. you still n...

...I don't really get how Airbnb works if you are not in the country to do it... Exactly the same as it works for any type of letting when you are not in the country. You need somewhere that they can collect/return the keys and someone to clean and sort things out between lets. I've seen it work wi...

As one of the rules is proof of regular income then as i am not getting the state pension yet (as they saw fit to postpone that from my expected 60 to 66 ,) i csnnot actually live in Crete yet anyway. So they wouldnt give me residency just yet so i will just hope that brexit doesnt screw it all up ...

Re: How to become a greek resident

...Member states will be allowed to set their own criteria for eligibility for the new document, but I guess it's worth having as much documentation as possible to prove you have a right to remain after the Brexit implementation period (1/1/2021). Of course it depends if EU member countries bother ...

Re: How to become a greek resident

Or is it the same thing but i need one with my greek address on it? NO!!! You need the normal EHIC that you get from NHS as a UK resident visiting other EU countries. You are still living in the UK not in Greece. Nobody's going to make you stay for 3 months. You go to a police station with the docu...

Re: How to become a greek resident

...I suppose it might depend on an individual seller or dealership whether or not you are asked for a residence card when buying a car... I think it is probably a simple matter of whether they know how to get round the usual requirement of having a residence certificate. Some people know and some d...

...signatures on a declaration that we would never be in Crete for more than two consecutive months at any one time. This last condition seemed a bit strange to me, ... I think that the person who filled out the declaration for you put 2 months because if you are going to be here 3 months or more t...

Re: How to become a greek resident

If you think that is complicated you are not going to get on very well with Greek bureaucracy. I don't think you have to live in the house for 3 months before applying. Just tell them that you will be staying for over 3 months and you want to get the residence certificate now rather than wait becaus...

Re: Flight Delay Compensation

I think what made me claim was the attitude I experienced during those delays. The first delay was the Ryanair flight from Stansted to Chania. That one was approximately 4 hours late. It was caused because the first flight had a fault on the plane and turned back one hour into the flight. When it go...

Re: Tsipras smells the coffee

I don't suppose it could be an engineered excuse to pull down the al-Aqsa mosque that now stands on the site of the previous temples? I understand that psychopaths often claim that god told them to do it?

Re: Tsipras smells the coffee

Figure 3 in this ekathimerini article is terrifying. It is a projection, so it might no pan out like this, but the idea that the number of people in employment will drop from a peak of 4.5 million to 2.5 million in 60 years is unthinkable. I cannot imagine that any country anywhere in the world coul...
