Our aim is to stay in Crete to the end but as Caroline says, never say never. We would not want our child to look after us if we become too infirm or gaga to look after ourselves so from that point of view it doesn't matter if we are in different countries. Who can say that he would stay in the UK i...

Is the ADSL modem integral to the router or separate? If separate, try connecting a PC directly to the ADSL modem rather than through the router. If integral, can you borrow a simple modem from someone and try that instead. That should rule out whether it is an ADSL problem or a router problem. Is t...

... No one choses to have cancer. John That's debatable, John? Some forms of lung cancer are 100 % attributable to smoking and lots of people choose to smoke. The following recent report suggests that, through life style choices, people are effectively choosing to have cancer. http://www.thisislond...

Sorry Lynn. You're correct, the little cross does disappear. I’m not sure exactly when. Perhaps when there is a subsequent post. Elsewhere you can delete your own posts at any time. On another site you cannot delete at all but that is because it doesn’t require a log in.

Purely for clarification, not all laptops have unmoveable memory. Mine, just three years old, has two accessible modules, both of which can be changed, and no fixed memory. It is pretty common when a laptop is configured in this way that the manufacturer puts in two smaller modules rather than one b...

It's interesting that the Porto Carras site declined to virtually nothing about 10 years ago and has since been renovated. We visited it in 1997 when we were hosting a meeting including a lot of Americans who were golf mad. We considered putting them up at the hotel for the weekend so they could get...

You might find a lot more orange wood in our area rather than olive wood, Ann. Check out that it will burn that OK.

A couple of weeks ago I had promised someone that I would look up the dates of some major showers since they had never experienced one. Being a bit geriatric I had completely forgotten when I suddenly saw the BBC article on the Perseids. I know a few people on this and other fora had expressed an in...

Hi Allan Firstly, I hope that they are going to upgrade from 264 MB to 1 GB NOT 264 kB to 1 MB???? Secondly, it depends what type of memory your computer needs. Strange as it seems, often older types of memory can cost more than the type that is most commonly used today. All down to volume. If you l...

I've got Version 8 on a DVD if that is any use to you, Mathitis? It seems to run OK on my ancient Windows XP Pro machine.

Re: Cretan Adventure part 2 - 30 days to go

.. I mean is there anything about England that you really miss. I doubt it... So it's Sunday morning in autumn. Get up late, have a cup of coffee and take the dog for a walk. It's sunny but quite cool so you can walk briskly without working up a sweat. Take a route across the common and some fields...

A passive repeater might be a solution. Put a Yagi outside pointed at the base station, assuming you know where it is. Put a monopole inside. Connect the two with a coax cable. Should work. I've been told our local council is considering one to improve TV reception in the village. There's a big hill...

I think some of Spike Jones would make perfect Karaoke music, Paul. "Serutan Yob" is my favourite but "Chloe" and "Cigareets and Whiskey and Wild Wild Women" are also very good. "Hawaian War Chant" and "Cocktails for Two" have both been used on recen...
