Re: Anyone Working?

Thank you Warwick. I didn't know about the minimum requirement of qualifying years in the UK. I have only perhaps 7 or 8 years contributions in the UK and over 15 in Greece. I'm not quite clear now as to whether I should be making voluntary contributions in the UK to make it up to the minimum, regar...

Re: Applying for Greek Citizenship

This is copied from the Greek Embassy web site in the UK: Aliens of non Greek origin, spouses of Greek nationals, are not entitled to apply for naturalization, as described above, at a Greek Consular Authority. They need to reside in Greece in order to have their application examined. The naturaliz...

Re: Applying for Greek Citizenship

I've done a bit of searching and found the law - 4531/2018 Article 31: https://www.lawspot.gr/nomika-nea/oi-nees-diataxeis-peri-ithageneias-nomos-4531-2018 The length of time of legal residence prior to applying is shown on a table at the bottom of that page. It seems to be 3 years for an EU citizen.

Re: Applying for Greek Citizenship

Many thanks indeed for this information. Does anybody know how fluent you need to be to pass the Greek language test? Jeff Jeff, I imagine you need to be pretty fluent, whatever that means though?! I would imagine a good first test is that you can read and understand/translate the Greek text above?...

Re: Applying for Greek Citizenship

Sorry Warwick I don't know, but I do know two people who have recently applied - one last year and one this year.

Applying for Greek Citizenship

Greek Citizenship It does seem to be possible to apply for Greek citizenship again now. They had halted it for a period & were allowing only those of Greek bloodline to apply. The main requirements seems to be to a) hold a Permanent Residence Certificate if EU citizen (΄Εγγραφο Ποιστοποίησης Μόν...

No Deal Checklist - British in Europe

The British in Europe No Deal Check List Here's a useful ten point checklist from the British in Europe group of things to do now, for those of us living in the EU, to prepare in case of a no deal scenario. Number one is to make sure you are legally resident in your host country - i.e. in Greece app...

Anyone Working?

Is anyone else on the forum working and paying National Insurance in Greece and wondering about their combined pension (UK and Greece) contributions should there be no deal on Brexit? There doesn't seem to be any information about this and what might happen as it comes under the Citizens Rights deal...

Re: Why Brexit is Right

Well this thread has twisted and turned, went on track for a short time regarding our concerns living in Greece and then off track again. Time to close it as it’s drifting off once again into the old Leave vs Remain argument. This forum is here to discuss our concerns about Living in Greece after Br...

Re: Still in Limbo

In fact it emphasises the point I was trying to make on here. It is taxes that pay for free medical care, schools, roads, policing etc, and without them there would be no money to run the country. (We have seen what has happened in Greece re tax evasion over the years!). I was not pointing a finger...

Re: Why Brexit is Right

I voted Leave to give turds like you who sneer and look down their noses at other people ,because you think you are better than them and because you went to some snotty grammar school and university, a bloody nose and enjoyed it .I cannot wait for the civil war in the UK to start to give reptile re...

Re: Still in Limbo

I thought I read somewhere that Theresa May had already, unilaterally, guaranteed the rights of EU citizens living in the UK. If that is so, why hasn't that been reciprocated by Barnier and his team? Or are they just playing hard ball? In the event of No Deal the implementation of the rights of EU ...

Re: Still in Limbo

I applaud the idea but they somewhat undermine their own argument. I am in Crete so cannot attend the rally in person. I have lived in Greece for over 15 years so do not have a vote and hence do not have an MP. How can I lobby anyone? Warwick This is an electronic lobby, e-lobby, as well as an actu...

Still in Limbo

Despite all the promises, our rights as British citizens in the EU are still not guaranteed, and there is very little time left in the Brexit negotiations to make a difference. The 'last mile citizens' lobby' is a day of action for the rights of the 5 million EU citizens in the UK and British citize...
