Hi Serko, I'm glad that you have found the book helpful. The paragraph you mention comes from an EOT statement - i.e. if you rent a house for less than 3 months to one party then it is classed as a holiday rental and you are required to obtain an EOT licence. For a long term rental a copy of the sig...

I understand what you are saying about life being a bit of struggle with four children anyway (!) but the system is very different in Greece, and I’ll try to explain a bit more about it. Here the older 2 children will need private Greek lessons, and keeping up with their English is very important to...

Unfortunately Filippos I think the company is well known only to those of us who live in Crete, and those who visit often. Newcomers may not be aware of any problems until it is too late, and not every prospective buyer checks out a company beforehand. The Daily Mail article will have made it more w...

For living costs don't forget heating in the winter, running a car - petrol, tax, insurance, mot etc. - costs of flights 'home' for 'holidays'. One thing that immediately strikes me is the cost of educating 4 children in Greece. The older two will need private Greek lessons - and later the younger o...

Hello Elka. The European school is based in a Greek school in a residential area and I don’t know the area myself as I live on the other side of the island, but generally there are always a number of houses and apartments to rent in most areas. These are mostly advertised in the local newspapers (in...

Had no problems uninstalling, which I was worried about after reading the comments mentioned above. However you do have to right click the prevx icon and 'shut down prevx' before removing fro...

The per capita figures for homicide rates (2000 to 2005 per 100,000 population) are: Greece 0.76 UK 2.03 US 5.90 So for every 1 homicide in Greece there are 3 in the UK and 8 in the US, per capita. Greece is way down at the bottom of the list - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_murde...

Crime exists everywhere. If you read back through news articles you will see that there are a number of common crime patterns in Crete - bank robberies, drugs, trafficking, revenge or vendetta shootings. Most of these crimes do not affect people's everyday lives. The 'low crime rate' which is bandie...

E121 question

I've been asked about the E121 for pensioners and dependants, and wondered if anyone has direct experience of the following : Wife is a 61 year old pensioner, husband 60 and taking early retirement. Wife will be covered, via an E121, for healthcare. Her dependants are also supposed to be covered via...

Hi Claire, There is a previous thread about Greek health insurers here: http://livingincrete.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=25&highlight=insurance Policies range from full cover for every medical scenario, to minimal cover. If you contact any of the companies listed they should be able to give you in...
