Avrio

This news article (ekathimerini) made me laugh.. "The construction of the long-awaited New Acropolis Museum is likely to be completed this summer but visitors will probably not be allowed into the building until next year, Culture Minister Giorgos Voulgarakis told a group of MPs yesterday. A year ag...

Yes of course been there! 8) It hasn't really changed that much in about 20 years, they play the same Queen and Scorpions songs 8) Haven't really been in in ages. Thomas extended it to include the bar next door; knocked through the wall. Now they seem to have moved over to there and are doing up the...

I was curious if the amount of 2000 euros per month is including the cost of having a car? I read somewhere that a couple can live in Crete for about 11,000 per year. Hi Mary, It's pretty hard to put a figure on as everyone lives differently. What do you include and exclude ? Rent, mortgage or neit...

Yiassou Eric, I agree with Dave that you should be fine on 2000 euros a month, and pork and chicken are the cheapest meats. Local lamb is v. expensive. You can still eat out for 10 euros a head for a main course, salad and village wine - if you chose the right tavernas and don't over-order on the st...

Hi Markos,

I checked with the civil engineer of a large reputable building company who says that officially any pool needs a building licence. That's the law - but of course it doesn't mean that everyone follows it :? , and the cost is about 6000euros.

Hi Markos, If you are checking for rental purposes and obtaining an EOT licence then the likelihood is you will need a building permit for any pool which is in the ground (as opposed to a 'ready made' above ground pool). Do you mean a building permit for the pool or a pool licence for EOT rental?

Hi Emma, You could also try posting her name and the area of Crete where she may be on the board here or on Interkriti and she may read it , or someone who knows her may. If you you don't wish to post her name you could try contacting the secretaries of the international associations in Crete for po...

There's an article and photos (no underwear in sight  but everything else) in the March Crete Gazette about the street markets. It also lists the days and locations of the Heraklion markets: http://www.explorecrete.com/traditions/laiki_greek_market.html Meanwhile back in Hania some of the marke...

It depends firstly on your area and secondly on your builder/civil engineer to a large extent. DEH the electric company say that theoretically it takes 6 weeks to get a new connection from scratch (we believe them!). That's from the time correct plans, application and supporting documents are submit...

Buyer Beware - again

Here’s a new one to watch out for. A new Environment Ministry bill on construction licenses and semi-enclosed balconies will be tabled in Parliament in spring. At present civil engineers submit a formal declaration, in which they state that the construction of the building comports with the terms an...

Hi Coco, You are likely to find locally organised excursions though travel agents / tourist offices when you are here, for example you can go to Elounda and take the boat to Spinalonga. For Cretan cooking you can look at http://www.cookingincrete.com Someone else here on the board may know of activi...
