Snowdrops +

My one and only tiny clump of snowdrops starts flowering in November and continues into February every year. I must get more. http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss112/daisyincrete/Snowdrops%2002.01.17%20002_zpsouosrush.jpg http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss112/daisyincrete/Snowdrops%2002.01.17%20...

Re: Hot Water

Thanks SatCure. My husband agrees with Spyros, that "it is not necessary."
His argument, is that there is already a thick lining of insulation inside the casing.
My argument, is simply that it is not effective.
We will see.....

Hot Water

This may seem like a silly question but, does anybody know if there is such a thing as waterproof lagging for a solar panel's water tank? My friend, who lives in the same village as I do, tells me that, at this time of year, the water from the solar panel's tank is still hot enough for a shower in t...

Re: Peanuts

Hurrah! I have found some peanuts, or at least my dear husband has. For any one else who needs them, he found them in the shop next door to Angela's Kafenion on the roundabout in Sitia. Apparently, they roast them themselves, but were happy to sell some raw, to my husband. I did try the shops you su...

Re: swimming in January?

Oh what memories you have had me recall Kilkis. When I was young, I belonged to the Bournemouth Spartan Swimming Association. We used to swim in the sea every Sunday from November until April. We also swam on Boxing Day morning and New Year's Eve at midnight. The winter of 1962/63 was so cold, that ...

Re: Peanuts

That would be a good idea Kilkis, if I had somewhere to keep a 50kg sack of peanuts. As I live in a tiny village house with a garden shed that is bursting at the seams, it wouldn't work. The good news is that the birds love the hazlenuts. The bad news is that they are more expensive than plain peanu...

Re: Peanuts

Thanks Mixos. I have tried all the other supermarkets and pet food shops, but I don't know INKA in Sitia. Where is it? I bought some hazel nuts from Halkidakis-on-the-hill yesterday. I will try those to-day and see how the birds like them. Whilst watering my garden this morning, I watched whilst a c...

Peanuts

http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss112/daisyincrete/011-6.jpg I have always bought the peanuts for the bird feeder from Ariadne in Sitia. They no longer sell them. Does anyone know where, in the east of the island, I could find them? All I can find is salted, roasted or peanuts still in their she...

Re: Speaker buzz

I have been trying to remember how long I have had it. It was after Windows 7 came out.
After 2008 I think.

Re: Speaker buzz

Thanks to you both for your advice. The first test did not go well as, it seems the battery needs replacing. It gave up the ghost within 5 steps into the garden. However, I found that, when using the headphones, the buzz is not there at all. I don't like using the headphones, as they give me a heada...

Speaker buzz

My Aspire lap top has developed a really bad buzz on its speaker. It makes listening to music, or even sometimes, speech, almost impossible to listen to.
Is there anything I can do about it, or does it mean I need a new laptop?
Thanks. Daisy :(

Re: Google Chrome

Thanks Andrew, that worked. Google Chrome now reads Greece, (in Greek).
Warwick, strangely, there were only two languages on the list. English (USA) first and English second.

Re: Google Chrome

Thanks for the information Kilkis.
With Google Chrome, I believe I have to go to the control panel and change the location.
Unfortunately, the current location reads as the U.K. not the U.A.E. so I am a bit stymied.

Re: Siteia or Agios Nikolaos

Sitia is very much a workaday town. It does have a harbour, good beach, a weekly market, tavernas and kafenions, as well as plenty of hairdressers, shoe shops, clothes shops, etc. In fact it has most things that one might need, although I haven't seen a tennis court. Aghios Nicholas on the other han...
