Re: Cost of Living

That is an admirably Mr Micawber attitude, Kilkis. We wrestle with money the whole of our lives- so, the obvious answer to the question 'how much do you need to live in Crete? is: 10% more than you've got. In truth, the unhappiest person I know is a chap I was at college with who's now a multimilli...

Re: Cost of Living

Assuming that you own your property in Crete just how much money (Euros) would a couple need to have reasonable standard of living? Currently anyone owning property has to pay a *property tax* (ENTHIA) (that tax is dependant on various things e.g property size tied in to "where* it is located ...

Re: Lightning damage

Thanks for the reminder - my router got blown up during that huge storm 30 May - I was standing at one window that looks towards Psiloritis - the shutters on the window were ajar - I watched in shock/horror as one bit of lightening seemed to make a Bee-line to me and then POOF and that horrible smel...

Re: Illegal grazing of Goats in olive trees.Advice please.

I sympathies for your plight and agree these neighbours don’t give a duck for anything to do with nature. To me it doesn’t make sense for you to be concerned about contaminated poo and wee from either the sheep or goats – the weed killed surroundings wouldn’t have provided any forage and generally s...

Re: Illegal grazing of Goats in olive trees.Advice please.

Update .Yesterday my partner and myself ,who is Greek and grew up in Chania ,went to the village of her grandfather and father ,and found three sheep tethered with spikes amongst the olive trees. So we cut the tethers and shooed the Sheep of her land .Later from the house we heard lots of shouting ...

Re: Illegal grazing of Goats in olive trees.Advice please.

πλεγμα (galivinised or other metal grid fencing does not need any permission. It's likely only structures that require foundations would require permission. Metal grid fencing is pretty good value, easy to install and very effective. You can have many options for entry/exit points. I use this system...

Re: Illegal grazing of Goats in olive trees.Advice please.

My partner owns some Olive trees and we keep finding goats poo amongst them and damage to the bark by goats teeth on some trees .Very badly on at least one tree. The first time we noticed we think the goat owners saw us arriving and recognised her as the land owner and went down the hill quickly to ...

Re: Mosquitoes

Many drugs actually cure illnesses completely. Which ones? There are many medical problems that fit more into the category of a "condition" rather than a disease and cannot be cured. Can you explain what you mean please This is from the link you posted: But all this doesn’t mean that suga...

Re: Mosquitoes

I know them by that name too but when I tried a google translate it came up with worms! I find using lavander oil on my pulse points and pillows if very effective to keep them away (and also gives a tranquil night). I've also had a big wasp problem - I know they are beneficial insects but when your ...

Re: Mosquitoes

I've experienced the exact opposite. I think it's important to check for any inadvertent mosquito farms after rainfall (empty pots etc). I was very scrupulous about that after the May 30 deluge, but I put the distinct lack of mozzies (for me) down to the snow we had in January. I wonder what this wi...

Re: Buying a car in Crete

Go to Supercars Chania and speak to the owner Manolis he's a great guy and speaks very good English, Manolis and his uncle will organise all the paperwork and chauffeur you around the various offices, making it as simple as buying a car in the UK. On the first occasion I bought a car from Supercars...

Re: Long term rent of my ptoperty in Roustika, Rethymnon area, Crete

I propose the price of 450 Euros per month

I agree Roustika is very pretty, but I think you are offering a tiny space for rather a lot of money. You don't mention a bathroom? Is it a new ladder to get upstairs :)

I think you might be lucky to rent it for 150 euros a month, not 450!

Re: Letting Tax

I think most European holiday destinations have some sort of (local *tourist tax*)? I would prefer it to be called *an environmental tax* and for all local revenues to be channelled back to the local councils to defray the *additional work needed* due to huge seasonal influx of people. But then agai...

Re: Greek Business

Didn't the NHS in the UK relatively recently throw away something like 10 billion pounds on what turned out to be a USELESS SYSTEM? How many thousands of euros (ironia) might it take to get an fully integrated Greek computer system up and running? The whole of Greece continues to be under the contro...
