Re: UK Bank accounts for ex pats

I disagree, bob. Banks don't ring 'addresses', they ring phone numbers. If my bank rings me, they will find me on the end of the phone wherever in the world I happen to be. No deception involved or required.

Re: Residency

Hi tom Your post implies that you don't have a beige Residency Permit. If not (and I'm no expert on this) I think you need to act very swiftly indeed. If you don't hold a Residency Permit by the end of the year you won't (as I understand it) be able to apply for the biometric ID card which you need ...

Re: UK Bank accounts for ex pats

This is precisely why the first rule of being expatriate is to keep a UK address. I'm sure Lloyds don't care where I live so long as they have an address in UK for me. Tim How can you do that without involving family or friends? I'm not sure I understand your question, margarita. You make it sound ...

Re: UK car to Crete Import cost?

I did it with a small van, but the principle's the same:

Bought a van in UK, drove it to Crete and unloaded. Used it for a few weeks to buy furniture/building materials etc. Attempted to sell to any ex-pat who wanted it (failed). Drove it back to UK and sold it. Flew back.

It worked for me.

Σεισμός!

Wow. Felt that. 5.9 on the Richter Scale, and not even that close to where I live. The old ladies of the alley all came sprinting outdoors. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?currentFeatureId=us7000bpvt&extent=-7.88515,-65.56641&extent=67.06743,116.19141 This map seems to suggest i...

Re: Biometric Residency Cards

I've always assumed (so long as I prove to be eligible) that I'd be issued with a piece of paper 'in lieu' when the time comes. I am still of that view.

Re: Crete Put on Naughty Step

An interesting point in the article is that the UK is imposing quarantine restrictions on a country/area if the 7 day infection rate goes over 20 per 100,000 population. The UK 7 day infection rate is now 19 per 100,000. Will the whole UK have to quarantine if it goes over 20? A paper reviewer on S...
