Re: Getting ready for BREXIT

Personally, for anybody who does live here permanently, I would suggest getting a Greek licence, because that is what the law intends, but nothing is going to happen if you don't. Warwick .... up until the point you're involved in a serious accident and there's a third party claim against your poli...

Re: Getting ready for BREXIT

... It's not terribly complicated, just do what it says in the grey box ? Possibly get an IDP if you don't want to change your UK driving licence. Warwick My understanding is that UK issued IDP's are only available to UK residents. One of the criteria required to apply for one is a UK address. If y...

Re: Cost of driving licenses

The guy at the Mixanologikos said as long as your paperwork goes in before the end of December, it's fine. (That's for exchanging a UK licence for a Greek one). But, as Warwick suggests, it's probably best to do it as soon as possible.

Re: Cost of driving licenses

Hi BST. Just done this, but can only speak as someone under 65. The fee (paravolo) was 30 euros, it cost me 12 euros for a set of 'official' photos, 35 euros for a lawyer to translate my UK licence and 80 cents (I kid you not) to supply an A4 cardboard folder to put all the paperwork in. That was th...

Re: Vehicle Testing

From asking around, it seems that the IKTEO I intend to use near Kavousi for the KTEO, you just turn up. There's a choice of 3 testing stations more or less next to each other. (The one in the middle has been recommended by several people.)

Vehicle Testing

It turns out that my annual emissions test and my bi-annual KTEO test fall on almost the same day next month. Do I still need to take the emissions test separately, or will it form part of the KTEO test?

Grateful for any input.

Re: Mandatory use of masks from tomorrow, Saturday 18th July

There is a landscaper who occasionally comes by my place to clean things up. We had a nice chat about the Coronavirus, and he was deep into conspiracy theories. I couldn't talk him out of anything, but the narratives were like this: - Something about population control and manufacturing viruses - m...

Re: Registration Certificate and Arthritis.

I remember being in Lidl in Sitia, it wasn't that long ago - 2010, 2012 maybe - and a customer was trying to pay for his groceries with a card. All the cashiers gathered around the checkout in question while they worked out, as a group, how to process the transaction.

Re: Registration Certificate and Arthritis.

Whilst it was on a Bus route the busses were not that regular. The only bus available was the one to and from Sitia. We eventually selected a small Village close to the main National road that has a great Bus service, busses to and from Sitia and Ierapetra. Not sure why you would say that, Mike. Ar...

Re: Registration Certificate and Arthritis.

Hi James Kavousi is a cracking little village - I'd be happy to live there myself. You'll find no shortage of English speakers as it's on the tourist trail. As far as learning Greek is concerned, I'm far from fluent, but as with most languages, learning sufficient basics to get by isn't all that dif...

Re: Direct flights from the UK to Greece from 15th July confirmed.

just in case they can’t get there! Or, indeed, can't get back. A sudden and decisive lockdown could leave a lot of tourists high and dry, especially if they have a job to go back to. Not sure I'd risk it this year. Having said that, I passed about a dozen rental cars on my 15 mile journey from Siti...

Re: Direct flights from the UK to Greece from 15th July confirmed.

A return flight from Gatwick to Heraklion booked ten days ago on EasyJet (Depart 19/8 - Return 28/8) would have cost you £36.99 there, and £44.99 back. In the middle of August. In the school holidays. Today, those same flights would cost you £30.99 and £56.87 respectively. Looks to me as though they...
