There is a significant factual error in the article. For a car the aerodynamic drag force increases as the square of the speed, not in proportion to the speed as quoted in the article, i.e. double the speed and you quadruple the drag force. The power needed to overcome that drag force increases as ...

The following is a quote from my accountant concerning the new property tax, E.N.F.I.A., applicable for 2014: "Date of payment Owners will start paying the new Property (E.N.F.I.A.) in six monthly installments starting in July 2014 (each installment cannot be less than 10€.) For the owners tha...

There's a guy who, almost permanently it seems, has a parked-up UK registered blue Landrover and trailer full of canoes by the National Road in Ammoudara just before you get to Agios Nikalaos. I assume he runs some sort of canoe trekking/hiring business - he might be able to point you in the right d...

I fear that the chance of being able to fly back to the UK without a 3 hour bus journey first will remain a dream for some time to come! Quite. Joking apart, I guess that any carrier taking on the Sitia route will fly from an out of the way airport in the UK, and any travel gains in Crete will be c...

About as likely as the international terminal at Sitia airport ever opening would be my guess. Tim I take that comment back. Work seems to have finally restarted on the new terminal building at Sitia airport and is, apparently, supposed to be finished by July. That's July this year, not next. Or th...

Anna, the quad bike idea sounds great, but how would you get from the airport to your village and back? Would the two taxi fares not cost more than the cost of hiring a car for the period? Or would you use the bus? Be warned, I once stood for nearly two hours at the correct bus stop at the correct t...

Or, if you turn left out of the car hire compound and head past the Air Force base into Heraklion, there's a BP petrol station about 700 meters down the road which is open 24 hours a day - the Shell on the National Road closes at night, usually around midnight, but I've seen it closed earlier.

Hi all Many thanks for your prompt and helpful replies. It certainly appears that the DTA form requirement for non-tax residents is now defunct. Interestingly, although I've been using the forms stored on my computer, the www link to both the forms and the instructions for completing them no longer ...

Double Taxation Agreement

Hi all Just wondering if any other non-tax residents have had problems with the annual DTA form submission this year. As in previous years I filled out the two forms and posted them to HMRC in Liverpool. They appear to be farmed out from there to various tax offices around the country. Last years wa...

Thanks for that, Warwick. I guess that would work. It'd be doubly handy if one could do that for the whole lump sum. Job done - hit the beach!

For the owners that are not tax resident in Greece the bill will be sent to us. When we receive them we inform you. This sounds like an administrative nightmare for those of us who only visit occasionally throughout the year. How do we settle these demands when informed by our accountants? Does any...
