Re: The End Game

Unless the Greek people believe there is a viable economy they will continue to withdraw Euro from their bank accounts as fast as they are allowed to.

Yep. Thought there was a hole in my thesis.

Thanks, Warwick.

Re: The End Game

Maybe somebody with a bigger brain can help me out on this. Clearly if Greece is unable to meet its financial commitments it will default and declare itself unable to pay. This is default. Why though does default equal Grexit? I've tried to understand this, but I fail to see how a country can be exp...

Re: Greece Referendum

The BBC are reporting that the ECB are to end ELA to Greek banks this weekend. Banks will not open on Monday and (presumably) will re-open with capital controls in place.

Re: Game Of Loans

And the deadline for Armaggedon has been put back yet again - from early April t April 24 and now May 11...... No, no, no. Armageddon has been pencilled in for May 9 ..... Turn up early to avoid disappointment and bring a packed lunch. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-04-17/may-9-grexit-da...

Re: Don't Panic, Captain Mainwaring.

They missed out scenario D for Deutchland, Germany and Greece compromise on certain issues giving Greece room to breathe and implement new reforms while actually getting some money into it's economy instead of it going to the banks and other places in that deep dark hole. You stupid boy Pike. You'd...

Don't Panic, Captain Mainwaring.

An interesting analysis of possible future scenarios/outcomes as the negotiations drag on and the Treasury empties .....

Re: The American Oar

An oar might not help. The truth is that the "powers that be" see Greece as "rocking the boat" and, if it can't be stopped, the best solution is EU excommunication (in their eyes) so they can concentrate their efforts on keeping the other EU members subdued via austerity. Agreed...

The American Oar

I see the Americans have now stuck their oar into the Greece/EZ drama - either to apply pressure or stir the pot - who knows. Legendary investor Warren Buffet has opined that a Greek exit will, far from damaging the global economy, actually be a good and positive move for the Eurozone. Funnily enoug...

Re: More of the Game (or Game Over?)

I'd be a little surprised if all the members of the members of the EZ didn't have stockpiles of new national currencies warehoused just in case. The fragility of the single currency is hardly a secret - economically it's been dead in the water for a long time - it's only the politics surrounding 'Th...

...You do have to have a tv licence if you own a television receiving device - it's the law... Not quite accurate. It is an offence to receive live broadcast without a TV licence. It is not illegal to own a TV without one. The people, I use the term loosely, who attempt to enforce the law do tend t...

That same BBC - one of the worlds leading private companies - sending seriously threatening letters (licencing authority) to homes with no TV licence - despite the fact you no more have to have a TV licence than having to buy cannabis. Loretta, old chap. Several points. The BBC isn't a private comp...

I believe you owe us all a euro each, mouche. There are currently 2508 members registered on the forum. That turned out to be an expensive bet. :(

Re: Gamesmanship

Cosying up to Moscow might be part of the 'game' but my guess is that it is just a gambit. Given that the EU has always been suspected to be a structure supported and underpinned by the USA Fed to create a global trading block and currency baulk against Russia and China, I would guess that the 'endg...
