Yeh, Yeh, yeh. The hearing went ahead, some bunch of priests got a kicking for selling land they don't own (nothing new there). A bunch of ex-hippie, rose tinted, environmental whatsits got their knickers in a twist about some old Minoan walls and a reptile. A bunch of middle England pretend develop...

Sorry, forget the "why". Cheesy is right, of course he is. What was I thinking of? "West Crete is the Real Crete" and therefore it must be. I was wrong. My apologies.

Yes OK I admit the beach at Istron is very, very nice. In the winter it is fantastic but in the summer, well sorry, a bit too crowded. Just depends what you like.

Simple answer, no. I have found nothing nice about Heraklion, I think the Germans saw to that in WWII. As you have decided to head east I suggest you do so with the up-most haste. Visit Agios Nikoloas, a beautiful town but then keep going and you will discover the real Crete. Enjoy the drive through...

As a result of my initial examination, this is not a problem, or at least it doesn't need to be...............

Just in case anybody missed my comment about the bribe culture in Greece. http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/02/17/europe/EU-Greece-Corruption-Watchdog.php I am not saying this is a bad thing, Greece is Greece, you take the good with the bad, but it is a fact. In some instances it is a way to get t...

I think Brian C makes a very good point about the lack of flights and accessibility to Crete in the winter months. I too have often wondered why the Greek government and the powers that be do not try to extend the season. Crete is a fantastic place to visit in the winter months. I look at the compar...

So day 1 of my lonely existence. H has enjoyed an Indian take away this evening, with our son as it is his Birthday today. Indoors with a log fire as Scotland is minus something degrees. Meanwhile I have enjoyed beer and a Meza outdoors in Sitia, on the way home my car says it is still 14 degrees at...

Meanwhile, sad lonely, old me is stuck with three dogs that miss their Mum. Thanks to the guys in Istron who gave me breakfast and other unexpected entertainme...

So we picked the best possible time for H's solo trip to the UK. Crete farmers on the rampage and the worst snowfall in London for 18 years. H was scared about the trip on her own anyway, now she is terrified. The alarm is set for 5.30 (arrrgh) and we will just have to see what happens. I will get h...
