Re: Mattress disposal Crete .

Tim, I think the place Jeff is referring to is off to the right on the straight new bit of road about 1k before you get to the Dionysos Village development (heading towards Palaokastro and Vai). I've not been up there but you can sometimes see palls of smoke and dust coming from the site as you head...

Re: Mattress disposal Crete .

Unfortunately this is why you see so many old mattresses and other detritus dumped over the side of the roads. However, the bin lorries WILL collect them if they are left next to the green bins -- maybe not immediately -- but they should go eventually. If possible, fold the mattress and bind it with...

... Perhaps it lost a bit of height in the last earthquake ... :? ... but probably not 80-odd metres !

Re: Here comes the Dollar

I can't find anything in your comments to disagree with, Danny, I was just pointing out the reasoning behind his appointment! (Warwick is right, of course, Farage is still being paid by the institution he despises, but by "public office" I was thinking more of government office.)

Re: Here comes the Dollar

It's quite simple really, Danny. You keep your friends close but your enemies closer. By appointing Johnson, Davis and Fox to key government positions, Theresa May has concluded that it's better to have them pi**ing OUT of the tent than into it. In effect, she said to them: You campaigned for it, so...

Re: Here comes the Dollar

Well, even for the Mail, this is as about as bonkers as it gets, Bob. Can you really imagine the US "sharing" the dollar with a country so deeply in debt?

Re: New tax allowance - UK

Call me a cynic, but it's also a classic example of HMRC/the government dangling a little carrot to obtain more information about people who might otherwise be below their radar. Information is power. More information on people = more power over people's lives.

Re: Bank account

Good point, Forsto. I think self-employed people would need to present their most recent Notice of Assessment from HMRC, if they didn't want to hand over the return or accounts.

Re: Bank account

There seems to be something going on with the banks updating their records, as we have also just been required to go through all that. We are also non-tax resident, but retired, and we have been asked to give our bank a copy of our UK pension statements as proof of income in the UK. We were also req...

Re: House Insurance

We have just taken out a policy with Intasure after years being insured with Lark, another UK based company (actually a brokers, who you would expect always to find the best deal.) After years of steadily rising premiums with Lark I decided to shop around and Intasure came back with a premium one th...
