Re: ParcelDelivery from U.K.

I brought out a free standing gas stove on easyJet (minus the gas canister of course) as hold baggage, without any problem. It was well wrapped up and I'd brought along some photographs in case they were suspicious of the metal bomb-shaped object I was checking in! You shouldn't have any problem wit...

Re: House insurance

Steve, if you are still looking, you could get a quote from Stavros at insurance-greece.com He often posts on this forum and I have found his policies (car and house) very competitive compared with UK insurers. Whatever company you choose, the policy will come with a hefty excess for earthquake cove...

Re: Cosmote internet router problem

Well it appears you were correct, Warwick, and I might have to eat my words about it being a systemic fault. The Cosmote engineer duly arrived last Tuesday and after a bit of head scratching did two things: 1, fitted a new filter on our upstairs phone and 2. Moved the existing filter on the downstai...

Re: Cosmote internet router problem

Just by way of an update on my original posts back in April ... I, too, am still having problems despite several calls to Cosmote. The internet "drop out" is still occurring at random times, sometimes in the middle of a phone call -- so the call is cut off -- sometimes just after a call wh...

Re: The Will of the People

Funny how this thread gets completely manic for a few days at a time, then the exchanges stop dead -- like a couple of punch-drunk boxers collapsed exhausted in the corners of the ring. Or maybe it's just too hot to bother repeating the same tired old arguments and a nice cold beer in a beach tavern...

Re: Collecting receipts

Do you mean you have become a tax resident of Greece, or that you have only just started submitting Greek tax returns as a NON tax resident? If the latter, you do not need to collect receipts or use credit/debit cards, but your accountant will want the pink/white slips from your Greek bank account a...

Re: Unsupported hardware Win 7 updates

I'm no expert on these things, nuska, but I think Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7 a long time ago. Windows 10 is fine -- any early bugs have been fixed so don't be afraid to upgrade. It'll be like swapping your old rusty banger for a nice new hatchback!

Re: Transferring funds, and pink slips

Welcome to the forum, Bluebird. Yes, you still get the pink slips, although they are now white! And yes, you'll need them for your tax return. I have never used Moneycorp, as Tim has done, so I can't speak for them. I just transfer funds as required online from my UK bank account to my Greek one. Yo...

Re: The Men From The Ministry

Hmmm. Smells a bit fishy to me, Tim. You sure it's not a scam? I assume these guys properly identified themselves, but one is bound to ask why the Dimos need, or have the right, to know anything about your income and residency status, which I would think is a matter for the tax office and police res...

Re: Cosmote internet router problem

Well that's very interesting, TweetTweet, as it suggests this is not confined to a particular area, but more likely to be a systemic problem of some kind. Bearing in mind Warwick's and peebee's helpful comments as well, I'm wondering if this low voltage discrepancy they talk about might be a fairly ...

Cosmote internet router problem

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing our problem. A few months ago Cosmote persuaded us to upgrade our internet router. The old one worked perfectly well but they said this new one would be better. However, since installing it, our connection to the internet drops out at random times, for a...

Re: Departing/Entering Greece After Brexit

Thanks for the explanation, Carol and Warwick. So it seems that it's merely a coincidence that Greece has started to comply with this Schengen directive at the very moment the UK was due to leave the EU, and that the new scanning of passports at Heraklion is unconnected with Brexit? Even so, it give...
