There something, or rather somebody, missing from this post... In the days before the Slobbovia "lockout" we would surely have had a spicy comment or two from Fuzer by now!! Where is he and why so silent? Well I can safely report a sighting in the hills last night and even now he is dustin...

A plan? Are you kidding? Word is that about two million euros -- about half from EU funds -- is being spent turning what were perfectly adequate roads into a half-finished obstacle course of narrower streets and ludicrously wide cycle tracks that nobody uses. They started in several different locati...

Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water .... I received an email this morning from my accountant, as follows: "According to the new financial low (sic) that has been voted on 30/05/2014 all the foreign residents who have real income in Greece such as interest on bank deposits , ...

Ann, I think Kilkis is spot on with his advice... and don't feel guilty about not paying tax in Greece. You will be spending your hard earned money here and if you eventually settle here full time, you will be paying tax to the Greek economy, as Kilkis said, on your world-wide income.

Hi Gwespyr. I can give you chapter and verse on this as I am in the same situation as you (non tax-resident in Greece, on the island for up to 183 days a year.) I have spoken to a very helpful chap at HMRC (yes, there are some) who said the online form is the correct one for people like us to use, e...

I know I'm at the other end of the island .. but it might apply at all Vodaphone outlets... the Vodaphone shop in Sitia say you can no longer buy these at their shops but ONLY at the kiosks.

Flippin 'eck! Does this mean poor saps like me who were persuaded by the "estate agent" (very loose description) through whom we bought our house to deposit our meagre savings with Eurobank should swap banks? If so, which other one is safer?

I've heard of a company called Nomad, but not used it so I'm not sure where they're located. I expect other forum users will know more.

Fuzer will be pleased to hear that "Ryanair are 95% likely to begin direct flights between Stansted and Sitia next summer..." according to a local Cretan with an Irish wife we met in Palekastro last month. Yeah right, I hear you say. Don't hold your breath but it would be handy for some of...

Well, seeing as The Times has calculated that the Polish immigrant population of Scotland could well swing the outcome of the Scottish independence referendum, I hope expats WILL have the right to vote in their Cretan villages .. not that it's likely to make a difference here.

Well, we bought a car last year and we don't have residency permits, so I guess the answer is 'No.' Have a look at the discussion thread "How to buy a Greek registered car if non resident" which is further down this stack, last comment back in March some time. It might, but possibly won't,...

Steve, our experience may help. We are NON-tax residents (ie in Crete for fewer than 183 days a year in total) who bought a new car from a dealership in Ag Nicolaos last year. At first, it seemed there might be a problem because the dealer wanted us to produce an identity document in addition to our...
