Re: Departing/Entering Greece After Brexit

As an update to Carol's original post ... Police at Passport Control at Heraklion Airport and, I assume, at Chania too (and the ferry terminals?) are now SCANNING passports of passengers arriving on UK flights, as opposed to merely looking at them as they've done up to now. I presume they will also ...

Airlines bumping to standby (part 2)

I don't want to rekindle the spat contained in a previous thread over the definition of what is the "norm" among airlines bumping passengers to standby (and Carol has locked that thread anyway!) but it's worth pointing out that Easyjet seems to be following Aegean's example -- with remarka...

Re: Irini Masterchef Winner

Apologies, Clio. Fair point. I got a bit carried away by the pleasure of the result. Hope you can enjoy it nonetheless.

Irini Masterchef Winner

Amid all the Brexit gloom, some happy news ... Irini Tzortzoglou, originally from a village near Heraklion, now living in Cumbria, UK, was "crowned" Masterchef 2019 on BBC1 tonight. Bravo Irini !

Re: Income Tax Submissions

The Pension Service doesn't send a P60, Jeff, but you should get a personal annual letter, in early February, titled: "About the General Increases in Benefits" which will set out your state pension rate from the following April. I have used this letter as evidence for my Greek bank and acc...

Re: Legalising a property

Thank you Warwick, Kamisiana and GlennB. Useful to have your input. I have an engineer lined up in a couple of weeks, so I'll be happy to post my experience when it's all completed, if it helps others.

Re: The Will of the People

Yes, Bob. It's not been lost on observers in the UK that it's apparently OK for Rees-Mogg and the headbangers in the ERG to change their minds, but the voters are still denied the same opportunity

Legalising a property

Has anyone recently had their property "legalised?" I have read previous posts on the topic and the very helpful explanation by Eleni Tsigarida on the main LiC site, but if any other forum members have had theirs done recently they might be able to answer the following: 1. Roughly how long...

Re: The Will of the People

I'm so pleased that Speaker Bercow reads the Living in Crete forum.... ;) (See my comment on page 40 of this long and tedious thread.)

Re: The Will of the People

Scooby, I'm not sure the Speaker will allow May to present her "deal" a third time unless there is a material difference in the wording of the motion. As I understand it, the convention has always been that a government cannot keep presenting the same (defeated) motion in the same session ...

Re: The Will of the People

It looks like Brexiters have overplayed their hand. No Deal will be rejected. Extending Article 50 will be supported, but at that stage the UK will have handed control back to EU leaders, who will dictate the terms of any extension. The UK might want a short extension, but for what purpose? Nothing ...

Ha! That was you, was it, Clio? We must have looked like characters from a Lowry painting, trudging, head down, wondering when, if at all, the tunnel would end.

Athens Airport --the long walk

A bit of info for anyone who hasn't flown back to the UK from Athens with a budget airline recently. Athens Airport has opened a new satellite departure terminal, which is a VERY long and weary walk from the main terminal. It seems to be just for the budget carriers -- only Ryanair and easyJet plane...

Re: That Flight

Well done Clio, I am assuming this is Gatwick, not Heathrow? Probably a bit late to be useful this winter as we are only about five weeks away from the start of direct flights, but if Aegean is still doing this after they stop in October, that will be very handy.
