Re: Here comes the Dollar

Well, even for the Mail, this is as about as bonkers as it gets, Bob. Can you really imagine the US "sharing" the dollar with a country so deeply in debt?

Re: New tax allowance - UK

Call me a cynic, but it's also a classic example of HMRC/the government dangling a little carrot to obtain more information about people who might otherwise be below their radar. Information is power. More information on people = more power over people's lives.

Re: Bank account

Good point, Forsto. I think self-employed people would need to present their most recent Notice of Assessment from HMRC, if they didn't want to hand over the return or accounts.

Re: Bank account

There seems to be something going on with the banks updating their records, as we have also just been required to go through all that. We are also non-tax resident, but retired, and we have been asked to give our bank a copy of our UK pension statements as proof of income in the UK. We were also req...

Re: House Insurance

We have just taken out a policy with Intasure after years being insured with Lark, another UK based company (actually a brokers, who you would expect always to find the best deal.) After years of steadily rising premiums with Lark I decided to shop around and Intasure came back with a premium one th...

Re: 500 - Internal Server Error

You are quite right, of course, Warwick -- a bit like what we used to say in my previous life as a journalist: "rubbish in, rubbish out." I have already had my email account compromised once before -- it was a variation on the "I'm stuck in Africa and urgently need money to get home&q...

Re: 500 - Internal Server Error

I don't want to speak too soon, but I think you might both be right, Warwick and Paul. This morning is the first time since about the New Year that I have been able to log on to LiC without getting Internal Server Error, Unknown Host or -- perhaps most frustrating of all -- the blue wheel of death g...

Re: Campervans in Crete .

As with so many things Greek, I think a lot depends on who you are, where you are and how bold you are. A man in a campervan (I think he was German or Swedish) was parked for the entire summer this year within spitting distance of the coastguard station at Sitia ferry port. The coastguards tried to ...

Re: Vehicle Tax 2017

That's odd. Is the Tax Office "punishing" diesel owners? My 1.2 (petrol) Hyundai tax has risen by only 9 euros.
