Re: Dual speed limit?

I'm talking about the National Road through the villages between Sitia and Ag Nik, fiippos, and never mind the big black agrotika .. It's me in a valve-bouncing Hyundai who's in the mood to shoulder them off the road !

Re: Dual speed limit?

You are lucky they are 60/50. They've been putting them up at this end of the island too, but mostly 50/40. Unfortunately the tourists in hire cars actually obey the signs, which makes the journey through the Lassithi villages even more tedious than usual.

Re: Water bill/rates

Any more clues here, Jason? Where in Crete? Name of the village perhaps? There are a great many villages with rivers and streams running through them, or close by. There's a spring in ours, just 100 meters away, but we pay water bills, so I'd be intrigued to know more ...

Re: Peanuts

Glad you found the peanuts, Daisy. The Eleanora's falcons are still around, as they are a late breeding species, so it will be a few weeks before they return to Madagascar for the winter. I'm told that they have established summer/autumn colonies on the three islands off Sitia. They are smaller than...

Re: A website listing British expat property and used cars for sale?

It's an interesting idea, Kastri, but others have pointed out the challenges you might face. As a point of interest, a quick trawl through the "buying and selling in Crete" section further down the forum reveals only two houses offered for sale by ex-pats in the past year and only a handfu...

Re: Visa Waiver System

Sections of the UK media are reporting this as if it's all come as a big surprise. "How dare they?" seems to be the subtext, but The Law of Unintended Consequences springs to mind. What did everyone expect from a vote for Brexit? Stand by for many more "shock horror" stories like...

Re: ENFIA

Thanks for that Tim! If the number of empty beer bottles is the criteria, you can expect an even bigger charge this year

Re: ENFIA

Thanks for the link, Steve, but does anyone on here know how the rate is actually worked out year on year? We are among the 24% whose tax has increased by up to 10 euros, but as I said in a previous post, we have added nothing to our property, the village we live in is most certainly not a desirable...

Re: ENFIA

It was, Andrew, but we all know that discussion threads on here have a tendency to wander off piste occasionally, though perhaps not quite so frequently as when Loretta9 still graced these pages

Re: ENFIA

Warwick and Mouche, you are among the lucky ones. My tax has rocketed ... by just over 7 euros ! I'd love to know how they work it out, as I cannot believe that our funny old village has become more 'desirable' this year and we've done nothing to 'improve' the house. ps: I can beat Bob's record .. t...

Re: E-tickets for National Bank queues

It'll never catch on. When Sitia post office tried to stop the queue-barging by putting up a rope for a one-way system, the "oldies" just came in at both ends. One of the cashiers in particular would shout at them to get in line, which they did with much grumbling, but it's still the littl...

Re: Peanuts

Lovely photos, Daisy. You obviously look after your garden birds. I can't remember the last time I saw a Robin in Crete. As we don't have a garden as such (only a courtyard with pots) our pleasure is watching the Eleanora Falcons wheeling overhead and listening for the tinkling sound of the Bee Eate...

Re: Peanuts

Daisy, have you tried the agricultural supplies shop (we call it the pet shop) between the market car park and Halkiadakis supermarket? I don't know if they have them but it's a big shop so perhaps worth a try. I'm assuming you have tried the other supermarkets in Sitia, including the new Inka? Ther...
