Re: Friendly question

The Apokoronas is quite a big area. Depends whether you want traditional village, tourist or ex pat orientated or something in between. Happy to meet as I'm sure a number of others would be, just PM. You may wish to contact Claudia at Crete Island Estates [native german speaker] for the Kalyves area...

Dog Training

We acquired a 5? month old GSD cross. Lovely with us and very intelligent but wants to run and chase and play with everything. Not appreciated by our cats. Her intelligence is quite confusing as we previously had bulldogs- bulldog owners will know what I mean. Not looking for perfection but 'come' w...

Re: Shocking bill ???

I can empathise - had a similar bill - about 200 euros - because of downloads. We moved to satellite -still a limit but its throttled when you exceed without exorbitant excess charges!
Windows 10 will be killing a few people with download limits I think!

Re: Touring Island on Moped

I agree about October BTW - I still try and avoid the downhill right hander coming out of Tsivaras during the first month of rain! I never like rear wheel steering on the track but on the road :!: Scooter v chopper v 'real' bike. I remember bike forums where fights broke out on that topic :D Whateve...

Re: Touring Island on Moped

Until you get used to the 'grip' available then a 600 might be a bit hot for most of the roads? At least in April May you can wear light protective clothing without heat exhaustion!! Remember to fight the temptation to follow the local custom to ignore helmet, gloves etc or the tourist idea of safet...

Re: The Fire Sale....

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes Not completely apt but we do tend, in a philosophical sense at least, to assume that there is an omniscient set of law givers who will be able to regulate the market to achieve our required ends. As with monetary policy often by the time the 'fix' is in place the market...

Re: Bye bye Tsipras

You don't get a "no austerity" choice! You get a 'no euro' and lots of austerity as the country goes bankrupt and floats a new currency based on ....? or The euro , with all the negatives [and 'even worse' the dependence on others] and lots of austerity I still think there is more chance ...

Maud,
not sure of your location but both Rethymnon and Apokoronas have programmes. If you want contacts let me know.

Re: Poison alert - Chania area

One of our worries about moving to Crete was the issue of animal cruelty. It has been pleasing to find that attitudes are, slowly, changing. Apokoronas is one of the very few who has faced up to this issue with the neutering program they are funding. House pets are now common BUT 'working' animals a...

Re: TROIKA RULES

Yes Martin I am unaware, as, it appears, are external investors and the Greek government. My view is that Geece can only succeed via an SME driven economy and the lack of bureaucracy and low tax culture that goes with it. Ireland is probably the closest example? My main point was that with the curre...

Re: TROIKA RULES

The Telegraph is far from a traditional supporter of leftist governments and I think the article was very much anti European rather than pro Syriza. Dara O'Brien said that politicians no longer answer questions about what they will do, they say what they wont do. The "economic hit man" was...
