Re: Olive Harvest

Whilst touring round parts of the island in October I couldn't help but notice a superior amount of larger olives in the Kato Zakros area compared to round about Sissi, where we were based. I have no idea if this is normal or not, but I would have thought trees in the roughly same geographical locat...

Re: Greek football fixtures

ΟΦΗ have 2 home games in October and would seem to be: Sun 2 October v Kalloni Sun 9 October v Panelefsiniakos My understanding is that Gate 4 is the place to be, so I think we should have a meeting of all the people from LIC. It's a sterling idea when you think about it - get to put a face to all t...

swimming in January?

Victoria Hislop was just doing an interview about her new book which would seem to be a series of stories set in Greece. At one stage when talking about the weather she mentioned that every January the weather will be good enough during a period of 10 to 12 days when you can get a tan and people wil...

Re: Greek football fixtures

I honestly don't know which league they are in - incredible as it sounds. I know they finished top of their league last season, and I think there are four such divisions and they play off against each other for promotion. Who won? I don't know. I accept that the Greek leagues are perhaps not followe...

Greek football fixtures

I understand that all Greek league games have been postponed till the 5th of September, but does anyone know how I can obtain a fixture list for OFH in Crete? I have wanted to go to a snakes game for some years now but have always failed due to away games etc. I will be in Crete during the first 2 w...

Re: Ryanair to scale back UK flights

A big debate on radio 4 today concerning travel and the recent switches with Portugal and Spain gaining 20 and 30% more British holiday makers as opposed to the last few years. The top reason is the rapid decline of destinations such as Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia. Although Cyprus is trouble free, it ...

Re: Hurry, hurry before it's gone

When we were holidaying on Symi my sister who lived in Rhodes came over to visit us. I tried booking online but they were averaging about 80 euros per night which we all thought was excessive. In the end my sister came over with nothing booked and got a room for 25 euros a night. Booking rooms onlin...

Re: Hurry, hurry before it's gone

That may seem about right for the course but the adverstised price is pretty steep. Then again maybe you get put up in five star luxury for the duration.... Compared to some Greek teachers here wanting £30 an hour to teach you via skype it doesn't fare too badly but the online resources available no...

Hurry, hurry before it's gone

I have just had the most generous offer from LanguageCourse.net, offering me a 2 week course in Xania for between *1020 and 1390 Euros respectively. Sadly, I am still in full control of my faculties and shall ignore this offer, but if someone isn't quite "on the ball" today, they may well ...

Re: Reliable Car Mechanic/Garage.

If your fuel cap does not breathe properly, it will create a partial vacuum within the tank itself which results in it trying to suck fuel back from the engine. If you are hearing a whooshing sound when you remove the cap after running the vehicle for a while then something is wrong. Try running wit...

Re: UK Referendum

In a radio 4 interview, a brexit spokesman was asked why they tried to perpetuate this myth and he said in a rather matter of fact manner that "if someone asks how much you earn you never tell them what you get after deductions, do you?" Then in time honoured political fashion he side step...

Re: Bravo Norway

Many people in cities are now keeping bee hives and the bees are doing fine, unlike their countryside cousins with much less traffic pollution which would seem to point to some other problem. Sucking in exhaust fumes every day can't be healthy and I can testify to this having worked in garages for o...
