We have to lump her in with Blair as sending us to war for no reason whatsoever apart from the fact she was the most unpopular politician ever at the time. Nothing quite like rallying the troops as unleashing the dogs of war because Argentina's junta was deeply unpopular. Previous governments, both ...

I would love to say I was appalled by this, but it just seems like another in a long line of banking/political corruption that seems to be never ending. Coupled with no politicians of any merit, never mind answers, it can be of no surprise that the voters in Greece, Italy and now Germany are turning...

From today's Ekathimerini; A Greek lender is set to take over the assets and liabilities of the Cypriot banks but any deal is dependent on the Parliament in Nicosia approving a deposit tax. Have to agree with much of what has been said here, when Cameron and co came into power one of the first actio...

A good site for football is firstrow1.eu. They still have the ads at the start for 30 seconds. After you have closed the ads, switch to full screen mode which then blocks the ads out. They seem to cover rugby, boxing, golf etc although I have never tried these.

Rent per annum £2400
Food (1 chicken a day for example) £2184

That leaves over £3000 per year which seems entirely feasible to me. I'm not looking to live the high life, just what for me would be the good life.
we wouldn't eat seven chickens a week, but it serves it's purpose as an example.

Getting back to the original thread, my wife and I had estimated an annual cost of around 8 thousand pounds for a year in Crete. This is to include rent and food etc. We worked this out by looking at long term rentals, then using what we spend on holiday as a guide. Obviously on holiday we eat out a...

I used google translate and then the babel fish translator which is why I got two differing answers. I have heard of the expression "may they live for you", and it's derivatives but never thought that this was what it was.
Still struggling with Greek grammar.................

Russia has always yearned for a military base in the med and Mr Obama is gravely concerned that should/when/if the euro fails then the Greeks will make their dreams come true. I thought that Russia would have moved on since embracing capitalism/corruption, but apparently they're rebuilding their for...

We musn't forget of course the pressure from Uncle Sam who are paranoid about the Greeks selling along term lease to the Russians for a naval base in the med. I agree though, the madness of persisting in something that cannot ever work is mindless. How can you marry the industrial economies of north...

I think the Germans might be starting to see the error of putting all the eggs in one basket, in this case the Euro. The economy in France is looking slightly dodgy now, if the Italians can't form a stable government then the Germans could be in for a very rough time of it. I think they'll all try t...

Italian elections

Given the meteoric rise of the 5 star movement in Italy's election, will Italy become the new focus for the Euro skeptics instead of Greece?
And more to the point, what do the Greeks themselves think of this?
