Re: Holiday in Crete

From what I understand Paul's ship stopped at Fair Haven which seems to be Kaloi Limenes down on the South coast. It is a lovely drive there but only a small harbour, a very reasonably priced taverna and a nice view of the oil/gas tanks on the small neighbouring island of Micronisi. In short, if you...

Re: Life of Car Tyres?

I think that the technology behind tyre design given the extremes they operate under is a little different to a plastic drain pipe design. When I lived and worked in Saudi, road temperatures of 65 degrees celsius were not uncommon yet the normal tyres we drive on in most of Europe can handle this ea...

Re: Life of Car Tyres?

The car wash opposite Lidl, behind the petrol station, paint something black and shiny on the tyre walls whenever they wash the car. Not sure what it is or if it helps prolong life of the tyres? Warwick Tyre paint was always used by the "trade" only, many years ago to give the tyres a nic...

Re: Weather

I think we have to try and see that the majority of people who would be interested in a winter break may be seeking a slightly different holiday from the summer criteria. Today I can book for a month in Benidorm for just over £300. They actively advise tourists to get out and explore the area.... No...

Re: A Question for the Troika

BBC reporting today that he will not even meet with the troika, never mind have discussions with them. It would appear he wants to converse with elected officials from the democratically elected governments of Europe - surely this will never catch on?

Re: A Question for the Troika

I read somewhere that the troika knew what the likely outcome was for Greece, but they had to be sacrificed for the greater good of the financial institutions involved. Utterly despicable, but when you are unelected and unaccountable, why should you give a damn?

Re: SYRIZA

Mr Tsipras being reported as stopping all construction of new all inclusive hotels as they give nothing to the local economy. As someone else noted, interesting times indeed. I wonder if this means he will go down the route of opening up all year round availability for tourism.

Re: Squeaking and juddering wiper blades

In addition to the excellent suggestions given, I spray my windscreen with oven cleaner foam. This is caustic so wear gloves and eye protection (and old clothes). Give the wipers a single sweep then immediately hose off all traces of the foam. Don't leave any traces on the glass, paintwork or the r...

Re: Squeaking and juddering wiper blades

The cheapest of methods to ascertain what is actually happening is to wipe the rubber of the blades with vinegar, or indeed meths. If this solves the problem then all is well, but this happens more and more nowadays with the use of cheaper third party car parts.

Re: Referee attacks

It now transpires that Mr Sarris (president of EPO) has accused the press of orchestrating the attack. Added to that the various chairmen of Olympiakos and AEK accusing each other of involvement it starts to look like the brown stuff has hit the fan in spectacular fashion. Nova are now threatening t...

I can understand that to a certain extent, but given that they brought in a foreign official who would presumably be aghast at any "brown envelopes" then I would have thought that EUFA would be monitoring the situation closely. Given that a few Greek teams compete in European competitions,...

Referee attacks

I read that Hugh Dallas, the ex Scottish referee brought in to oversee the appointments of officials at Greek super league and league fixtures has stepped down after a recent attack in which his deputy was hospitalised after being beaten about the head with wooden clubs by two assailants. It now tra...
