Re: WHAT IS THE FUTURE FOR CRETE POST CONVID-19

This is a world crisis. It is the youth that will suffer everywhere. One thing in Greece’s favour is that education is still seen as beneficial, and most children want to go to school and learn. This means that higher education is sought after, and the young people who achieve this have the benefit ...

Re: Flying Crete - UK

A very informative post altohb. I am sure it will be useful to others. Personal experience wins over other forms of information every day! You can see evansmr that some people fly back to Kriti, as well as away from it. Guy’s original post was just informing everyone of his experience. Broadening th...

Re: Flying Crete - UK

If you find the thread boring evansmr might I politely suggest you just ignore it? Shutting it down would be a shame for all the useful posts on it......regarding filling in the PLF etc. I think with all the uncertainty when visiting countries just now, it is good to have as much information from fe...

It has made regular news headlines in the U.K. since the Limnos incident Guy, especially once Macron offered more naval support.

Re: Flying Crete - UK

This is not about a ‘blame game’ Chrssyg. If you believe so, then you are misjudging the situation. Guy is correct, not all young people are going to parties and raves. His well brought up daughters clearly know better.....and are also not in the late teens/early twenties age group that are attendin...

Re: Flying Crete - UK

Sorry Warwick, you took me too literally there! It was herd immunity through vaccination that eradicated smallpox. As you are aware, it is a term used for vaccination as well as immunity through infection. What scares me is the thought of uncontrolled spread of a virus to achieve it! I also saw the ...

Re: Flying Crete - UK

We still don’t really know enough about this virus to speak with authority. The thought of herd immunity is frightening. There is also no guarantee at the moment as to how long any immunity would last. There could be people thinking they were immune after having the virus, yet spreading it liberally...

Re: Covid -links to sites with statistics

I think some of it depends on your insurance company Warwick. We do an annual insurance policy and renewed ours in February. At the time Covid 19 was not an issue, so our policy covers us for everything, including Covid 19. If you took out your insurance once Covid 19 was declared a pandemic, most i...

Re: Covid -links to sites with statistics

A word of warning...... Remember that it is more than just quarantine that can affect you when travelling. You also need to consider if your travel insurance is invalid if you are visiting a country against FO advice. - Very few policies cover such a situation. Certainly in the U.K, hardly any insur...

I bet there are plenty of cruise ships all around the world looking for somewhere free/cheap to anchor up right now!

This might explain what is happening with cruise ships at the moment.

Re: The Lotus Eaters

Yes, I read that yesterday Bob. I suppose it was Inevitable, as the area is full of expensive hotels and villas these days. The ‘next step’ is clearly to accommodate the super yachts, then maybe a helicopter pad etc! We feel fortunate to have spent a lot of time there when the local women still did ...

Re: The Far East

We spend a few days there every year. Sometimes there is a French yacht moored up in the bay, so I assume they are regular visitors at a similar time of year to us. It is a very special place. We know a German chap who spends two months a year on Kriti. He is a walker, so visits for a month in the S...

Be quiet Guy! - Have a nice time though.

Will you go down to the Nature Reserve at Xerokambos? We like the birds there in the Spring and Autumn.
