Re: Anyone wanting/needing to travel by air to Greece/Crete now.

I have to say that I saw the report as being about how well Greece has handled the situation. It showed how efficient they were in testing and isolation until the tests come back clear. I am not a fan of O’Leary in the least but today he made a very good point on the BBC. He said that when traveller...

Re: Britons urged to travel to Greece this summer

Information changes daily, especially in the U.K! It is difficult to make sense of anything.....or plan for the future just now. - None of us know what the future is going to be like anyway! If I were living in Greece I would certainly not want to come to the U.K. for a holiday. If I were living in ...

Re: Britons urged to travel to Greece this summer

[quote="Guy M"][quote="Straycat_67"] We have hardly relaxed anything here, no where near what you might think. Only essential shops (supermarkets, garages, pharmacies etc...) still open, yes we can go out for more exercise and short drives but in general lockdown still more or le...

Re: The Lotus Eaters

I remember it Solitude. I am not sure how one would find it now. The Two Faces of January is another drama filmed here. It is based on a Patricia Highsmith book.

Re: Britons urged to travel to Greece this summer

I am on your son’s ‘team’ Warwick. I have a five year old granddaughter, and in my working life I taught 11 to 18 year olds. I agree with him totally! I have just watched Lord Sumption being interviews on the BBC 24 Hour news. - What an arrogant dinosaur! Thank goodness I never had to appear in the ...

Re: Britons urged to travel to Greece this summer

The only reason cases are falling in the U.K. (like most countries), is down to social distancing. I watched Gove on the Andrew Marr Show this morning, and he begrudgingly spoke about ‘R’. - True to form he fudged the question again when asked about it being already out of date by the time it is ann...

Re: The Lotus Eaters

That is correct Warwick. I am sure it was also accessible from the main road in to the village via step down the side of the building. I expect it would not be so easy to find these days. It was a ‘prime position‘ along the sea front there for tavernas. - I bet it is crammed with them these days. We...

Re: The Lotus Eaters

Yes Warwick, the Ferryman Taverna was on the right at the bottom of the hill as you dropped down in to the village of Elounda. I must look on Google Earth to see if it is still there. Maybe someone on here from that area can tell us?

Re: The Lotus Eaters

I have looked up Lotus Eaters in Agios Nikolaos and found this. http://www.mjbird.org.uk/LOTUS_locations.html I am sure it is correct. The bar had signs all over it saying it was where the Lotus Eaters was filmed. The ‘Ferryman Taverna‘ was certainly used for filming and was also where all the film ...

Re: The Lotus Eaters

The Lotus Eaters was actually made around the old harbour in Agios Nikolaos Jeff. I am not sure if it is still there, but there use to be a taverna named after the series. It claimed the building was used for filming in the series. If you are not familiar with either series, I think you will enjoy w...

Re: The Lotus Eaters

We saw the same floating pontoon system in Tolon in the early 1990’s. We had taken 50 sixteen year olds on a water sports holiday to the Peloponnese. There were a couple of other schools also at the resort, and they were trying out he parasailing. - I (very firmly) told our lot that they were NOT al...

Re: The Lotus Eaters

It would be great to see your presentation Bob. No chance you could somehow turn it in to something that could be posted on here? Kookla, we holidayed in Elounda for four years, which would have encompassed 1981. We remember a wind surfing school, but my vague memory recollects the children and I si...

Re: The Lotus Eaters

It was ‘Who Pays the Ferryman’ that first brought us to Crete. My husband happened to accidentally meet up with an old school friend. The friend told him how he had just returned from filming ‘ Who Pays the Ferryman‘ in in Elounda. He insisted we should visit Crete, and especially Elounda. We booked...

Re: Coronavirus, what happens next

The U.K. government has now stopped showing the death count in the U.K. in comparison with other countries during the daily Number 10 Briefing. - There is a thought that this has happened because the U.K. death count is now an embarrassment for the government. To be honest, the most important fact i...

Re: Theft of wood! Hidden CCTV cameras in our olive trees?

Spot on Jeff. As Jean and I have already mentioned, the word ‘Troll’ comes to mind. - Let’s not ‘feed’ it, and allow the thread to die.

There are so many good, kind people on here. They have already tried to be helpful, so there is no point in carrying on with the ‘discussion.’
