Re: Cats in Rethymno

The Cretan cat-a-list charity catch a lot of cats and get them neutered in Rethymno. Hopefully this is starting to make a difference. I have been coming to Rethymno in September for the last 8 years and I have seen a decline in the stray cats in the town but there are still colonies around the vill...

Re: How long should it take to purchase a house?

I think Warwick’s advice is very good. It took us under a month which I don’t think was abnormally fast, so getting the lawyers to speak to each other seems a good idea. Sorry about the delay - v stressful.

For things like this I would use Nomad ..Crete Express..

We used Nomad to deliver an electric keyboard to Western Crete in July. They deliver to John the English butcher in Vamos. We had to get the keyboard to their warehouse outside Peterborough.

Re: Cats in Rethymno

The same mystical thing must have happened in Rethymno in time for the summer tourist season.

Cats in Rethymno

Younger daughter loves cats, elder daughter hates them. Walking around Rethymno today elder daughter said ‘the problem is we’ll never get anywhere because we’ll have to stop each time there’s a cat’. So I said, let’s each guess how long it is until we see the next cat; I said 1 minute, she said 2, a...

Re: container home

When I worked in Africa we had a team on assignment in Southern Sudan when the country was first created and they lived in containers in Juba for more than a year when there were no hotels there. Never complained about it

I take my hat off to anyone who includes Pukki - I’d never heard of him before last week.

We had only a brief overnight stay with two carbon-guzzling children so we didn’t get to see the frescoes. Next year, when we plan to head East again. Thanks for the tip.

Fewer, surely Warwick. You on the sauce, old boy?

Indeed. Children are countable. If less time was spent teaching subjects other than grammar there would be fewer mistakes.

Re: The Far East

Which I guess proves there are two ways of ending the human race: having children and not having children.

Re: The Far East

GuyM, Xerokambos is lovely, as is its clay cliff. However, it has been badly eroded by humans digging the atomaceous clay out to use to "clay-bathe" as you put it. The last time I went there, there were signs up asking the public NOT to remove the clay, to conserve the area. It's bad enou...

Re: The Far East

We love Kato Zakros......even with the few coach loads of tourists that visit there these days! Over recent years we have only been there in May and October, but many years ago we used to visit it for a few days in August as well. From what you say, it still isn’t over run with tourism in August? D...

Re: The Far East

We seem to have disappeared down a rabbit hole of hotel strengths and weaknesses. For what it's worth, Zakros has a bit of a Wild West (or, more accurately, wild east) feel to me; I could imagine getting into some interesting late night conversations over a few drinks there. The place that really in...

...We love Hania, as it is such a beautiful town, but we seldom go there now, ... - It is too busy. Completely agree and I only live about 15 km from the centre. Apart from necessary visits, e.g. to visit a doctor, accountant etc, I probably go into the centre two or three times per year and that i...
