Re: The Far East

I've just returned from a 3 night trip to Zakros! I live almost at the centre of Crete. Hi Ros. Where did you stay in Zakros? We are at Yianni’s Retreat, 800m above Kato Zakros. This is a lovely, calm place with beautiful gardens and simple rooms with a fridge, two hob cooker and basic provisions -...

Re: The Far East

Our house in Apokoronos is what estate agents call ‘a unique opportunity’ ie unsellable. The only people who will have it after us are our children. Might be nice for them to have taken it over while we move completely from the U.K. to somewhere in the East - then we could have a bit of both. But I ...

The Far East

For the second year, we have come to Kato Zakros in the East - a four hour drive from Apokoronos. Like last year, i’n struck by the differences: Many fewer tourists and in general roads are not so full. Much drier Seems cheaper - we had a really excellent lunch at Retro in Palaiokastro where everyth...

Re: Gramvousa and Balos by boat

As it was explained to me yesterday the person who set up Cretan Daily Cruises (I think it is called) was a sea captain who became captain of the first boat they had - this ran the route from Kissamos to Balos/Gramvousa. They now have four boats running that route as well as boats in the south of Cr...

Re: Gramvousa and Balos by boat

Yrs the shipwreck at Gramvousa is still there, Mixos. Not much cover against the sun at either place. The boat was v full and the best shade was in the middle of the lower deck as you say - there is shade elsewhere but you need to get there early to get a good spot and leave a bag there as reservati...

Gramvousa and Balos by boat

Has anyone else done this trip? We did yesterday- it’s a full day from Kissamos with stops in each place for swimming )and for more energetic ones, climbing up to the castle in Gramvousa). Highly recommended- sparkling clear water, dramatic cliffs etc. Lots of sun cream needed and a hat.

Re: Fantasy Premier League

Thanks Phil. Full disclosure: I wrote a weekly column on English football for a Kenyan newspaper for eight years as a hobby. But i’m not that good - usually around 2.000 in Greece

Re: ParcelDelivery from U.K.

In the end I wrote to Bristol airport and they said I was fine as hand luggage (but with the caveat that it was at security’s discretion). Of course we sailed through security so I’m armed with tent pegs for the flight. :D

Bob is right - a good lawyer and accountant is the place to start. Here’s a good accountant. (I’ve copied the footer from an email they sent me). Atsalakis & Partners - Tax Oasis “The only office specialized in providing tax and accounting advice to non-Greeks. Accounting, tax advice and busines...

Re: The Will of the People

. I would not want to remain without a second referendum; I think it would lead to a significantly higher level of resentment than would be achieved with referendum. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near the U.K. if there was a second referendum. The amount of anger and hatred from all sides is incre...

Re: The Will of the People

As long as any and all barriers placed in the way by leaving or EU deliberate blocking are reciprocated by Britain. That's fine. If we had a leader like Trump the EU would be begging us to go easy on them. Regardless of what happens with Brexit, the UK is already f*cked. If we leave or if we remain...

Re: The Will of the People

The EU losses will not be “equally shared “ though, that is a misconception . Germany and other countries mentioned before have a lot to lose. The losses of the Germans, the Dutch, the French etc will all be less than those of the British (there are 27 of them and 1 UK), but more importantly they t...
