Re: Top up mobile phones from bank account?

For UK Vodafone SIMs it is 3 months - I imagine it is the same for Greek SIMs

It certainly works with a Greek debit card - that's how I top up most of the time.

Re: postal service

That matches what we've found in Sitia - although I've never tested how late in the day one can "get away" with posting, and we always post at the main post office. 2-3 days to the UK is the norm in the summer; slightly longer in the winter. Incoming mail takes about a week for letters/car...

Try these people. http://www.greekbay.gr/properties/for-rent/long-term

I have no idea how efficient they are, but it may give you a starting point!

It might just stop retailers insisting you have a bag, even when one isn't necessary, but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Ballot papers

Just rang the elections office at our local council - for people who have been registered for a while for postal votes (like us) the papers are starting to be sent out now. Don't know about "new" registrations. Suggest you contact your local office for an answer, Jeff.

Re: Ballot papers

No - I read somewhere yesterday that people in the UK who do postal voting have started to receive theirs, so hopefully we'll get ours soon.

We have had the same from our accountant. Their best guess is "after Easter"!

Re: Gluten Free Dairy Free

Our local branch of Xalkiadakis in Sitia has quite a good range of gluten free goods and flour/flour mixes these days. I imagine other branches will be similar. As far as dairy free goes - plenty of soya milk/almond milk is also available. If you want dairy free cheeses you might need to find a shop...

Re: Dogs

I boarded our two dogs at Crete Kennels at Rethymnon for a few weeks last summer and was well impressed .. Peter is a great guy who really looks after his guests.. It was so good to drive away from his place and know that our dogs were in safe hands ....jeff.. I endorse that - Crete kennels is bril...

Re: Bank account

Pretty sure it isn't anything to do with Brexit - we were asked to do this ages ago, and we're permanent residents. There was a bank leaflet available detailing all the bits of information requested and it was dated 2013, if I remember correctly. Everyone has to provide that info - obviously getting...

Re: Crete driving is appalling !

y. I actually find it relaxing to drive here and don't get any sort of rage when things happen, opposite in the UK where I find it aggressive, and what with all the speed camera's, speed bumps, a trillion signs everywhere, bus lanes that jump out at you when you haven't had time to see if it's lega...

Re: Hello

Most of the people I know who have returned to the UK for health reasons have been below state pension age, so given the cost of private health insurance I can understand in some cases. The limited exposure we've had to the Greek healthcare system has certainly given us no cause for complaint at all...
