Re: Hire Car Excess Insurance

I've found a couple - the second one certainly seems to be valid for Greek residents, but I haven't investigated further yet.

Re: Hire Car Excess Insurance

Just had a reply confirming that my policy is still valid - which is a relief.

Hmm - not encouraging news re the "other" lot.

Re: Hire Car Excess Insurance

Thanks for this information, Warwick. I currently have an annual policy with insurance4carhire.com, so have emailed them to establish whether I am still covered or not - I took the policy out in April. I've had a quick look at the other outfit you suggest, and the rates are comparable, so will have ...

Re: Greek driving licence application

...They were certainly asking for proof of residence earlier - ie utility bills... When was this? Scooby reported on this forum in 2010 that he had just renewed his UK licence on-line using a UK address and as far as I know he wasn't asked for any proof of address. Also the links don't mention anyt...

Here is the latest information - updated quite recently. They were certainly asking for proof of residence earlier - ie utility bills.

Re: Greek driving licence application

4 A legal translation of my UK driving licence. This was quite long since it was the old green paper licence*. I am not sure if this will still be necessary if you have a modern laminated plastic UK licence since they are all to an EU format. 5 My English licence which they kept and returned to DVL...

Re: Greek driving licence application

Jeff - it is worth chasing up. We got our Greek licences from the Sitia office earlier this year. It took about 3 months in total, including getting translations done by our lawyer. I know of someone else whose application had to be re-sent to Swansea via fax, and I think that is where the problems ...

There are certainly people here in Sitia who swim all year round.

Re: Peanuts

Just a thought. Have you asked Jayne at the British Shop in Ag Nik? She might just have them - if you were going there for other things anyway. There are also a couple of quite large pet shops in Ag Nik which are a possibility. If you go into the town on the "old" road, turn right at the l...

I'm with you, Warwick. While I actually would be very concerned if my property tax quadrupled the principle you state is correct. Those at the bottom of the heap are always the ones on whom increases bear the hardest. The basics of shelter, water and food should not be subject to tax - ever, in my o...

Re: E-tickets for National Bank queues

However, the Piraeus bank in Sitia has a queueing system and it does work fairly well. The agricultural union has one too, thank goodness. The first few years we were here the annual registration of olive plots was a total nightmare, but nowadays it is pretty efficient - as long as you ask someone h...

Re: Hotel near University Hospital Iraklion

I know someone who stayed at the Lato Boutique Hotel while she was having chemo at the University Hospital and found it very good - should imagine it was relatively easy to get to/from as she stayed there several times.

Re: Tooway satellite broadband

Forthnet have a satellite service - no idea how good it is, but it was suggested to us a while ago - we are pretty remote as well.
