Re: Withdrawal Agreement and Our Rights

Meanwhile, yesterday I read (in The Guardian) that some Brits are rushing to buy and establish residency in places like Spain before the end of 2020, while today I read that "Britons in EU remain fearful of post-Brexit healthcare and pension provisions " I'd say it might not be the best t...

S1 holders update

From the British Embassy in Greece facebook page (Brits in Greece). "We’ve had some questions from UK state pensioners (S1 form holders) about how their healthcare cover will be affected after we leave the EU. Here’s what you (and any S1 dependants) need to know about the future of your healthc...

Re: Marks and Spencer Heraklion

Can anyone familiar with M&S in Heraklion please advise whether they have a good range of men's suits? Plenty on the website, I'm well aware, but want to check quality/fit without the faff of possibly having to return. I have not visited them this year, but last year and on other year visits th...

Re: Mobile phone scam

Alternatively have you tried asking in a Cosmote shop. Ask them to deactivate the automatic package selection for you. Warwick Yes Warwick, this whole thread started following a visit to Germanos in Souda who insisted that we could not avoid the 'free gift'. Once we had topped up the phone in the G...

...Avoid Ierapetra on St George's Day (23 April)... Out of curiosity what do the St George churches and the towns/cities with St George's as their main church do when 23 April is within lent? Individuals normally put off their name day celebration until after Pascha, usually to Easter Monday. Does ...

Re: Sitia Closed?

Correct. Everything shut on St Catherine's day. Avoid Ierapetra on St George's Day (23 April) and Ag Nik on 6 December for the same reason!

Re: Greek Government website for UK citizens re Brexit

Hi, altohb, just wanted to say huge thanks for postal proxy tip. It’s now all done and dusted and a great weight off my mind. Glad you got it sorted, Kookla! It wasn't my idea originally, but I was certainly pleased to have come across it! Given the tight timetable for this election it is definitel...

Re: Greek Government website for UK citizens re Brexit

Thank you, that’s the page I got to but I couldn’t find the correct form, none of them seemed the right one. Do you know which one you used :) I didn't do the postal bit. The proxy has to do that. So - stage 1, find your proxy. 2, send back the form naming the proxy to your local authority. 3. LA c...

Re: Greek Government website for UK citizens re Brexit

https://www.gov.uk/voting-in-the-uk#postal-voting is what you need, I think. When I did ours I sent the proxy form to our local authority. They then informed the proxy that it was set up, and the proxy applied for the postal vote.

Hope that helps.

Re: Greek Government website for UK citizens re Brexit

Good to know Yin&Yang. Perhaps I should look into a postal vote too. X May I make a suggestion, as I know from experience that postal vote papers don't always arrive in time. Contact the secretary of the party you wish to vote for in your constituency, and ask them to find someone who would be ...

Re: What`s the best way to get rid of Oleander?

It is quite likely that you will be unable to buy poison. As of a couple of years ago (I think) farmers had to sit an exam and be certificated to be able to buy poisons, and shops need to check that you have a certificate before they will sell to you. This is theory, of course, but our local agricul...

Re: State pension inequality

I seem to recall Women were crying for equality in the work place. Equal pay also. I totally agree with this, equality and equal pay. BUT Ladies you cannot have it both ways. However, I believe that Female do not have to work as long as Males have to.So in many ways you are still winning. Nope wome...
