Re: Quad bike - tax, insurance etc.

Further to what Warwick has just said. The Greek tax authority seems to have no concept that people buy certain items out of capital. If you can get your head round that, then the notion of imputed income makes a little more sense - outrageous though it seems to those of us who are used to being tax...

Re: Quad bike - tax, insurance etc.

Forgive my (marked) ignorance Kamisiana, but why would a vehicle need to be included on a tax return? It is an outgoing after all. TIA Blakey_Bloke In Greece a vehicle is seen as an asset . Which needs to be declared on the return the following year - ie if you buy one now you will need to declare ...

Re: Changes to online banking UK

I think banks would like everybody to have their App on their smart phone and do all banking using that. Personally I choose not to do so. While it is possible that somebody could break into my house and steal my desktop PC, theft or loss of a mobile device is a far greater risk If someone got hold...

Tariffs

Just an example of what Brexit could mean for those Greek producers who export to the UK.

Travel insurance

Following my earlier thread about car hire insurance, I've now discovered that Staysure no longer provide travel insurance for Greek residents - France, Spain & Portugal residents only now. I've taken out cover for my next trip with https://www.worldwideinsure.com/ - the same as for my car hire ...

Re: The Will of the People

Sir Kim Darroch has just resigned as ambassador to the US. The real scandal here is that a good public servant has been abandoned- this is not putting the country’s interests first - it’s all about self interest. Somebody leaked the ambassador’s emails for a reason. Possibilities: Russians to drive...

Re: The Will of the People

To be fair Scooby many musicians have expressed concern about whether they will be able to do concerts in the EU in the same way after Brexit. Nobody knows until everything is wrapped up but the concern is genuine even if in the end it turns out to be ill founded. I can't for one minute imagine tha...

Re: Greek Driving Licence

Interesting to know just why people didn't get residence permits initially. Of the people we know here, many didn't - largely on the say so of the estate agent that many of us used - don't need one! My husband was asked for one when he bought our first car, and I got one straight away as well, worki...

Re: The Will of the People

I simply tried to demonstrate the history behind why it was adopted, i.e. nothing to do with federalism, the claimed reason the Brexit party turned their back on it. I can't do anything to help Farage and his followers cure their paranoia but I can at least point it out. Warwick Quite right, Warwic...

Re: The Will of the People

Guy wrote In summary, a weak £ due in part to uncertainties about Brexit means more of British companies will be owned by foreign companies. Some of those buyers of British companies will move the businesses overseas. That’s the price you pay for leaving the World’s largest free trade market. And t...

Re: The Will of the People

Phil is correct, there is not going to be any time to put a halt to this situation. I fear we are going to crash out without a deal just for the Conservative Party to save itself! Boris will probably get elected as PM, as the Conservative Members believe he is the only person that can ‘save’ the Pa...

Re: Wanted, Second hand car

I endorse what Tim has said - Vassilis Tsikrikonakis is good to deal with. His office is on the corner opposite the National Bank, and his "lot" is just down that side street. I bought a car from him last year and the process was very easy. We have also sold a car to him - again, straightf...

Re: The Will of the People

The role of Parliament is to hold the executive (ie the government of the day) to account. The Speaker is key in making sure this happens and, whatever we think of John Bercow for other reasons, he is upholding the power of Parliament, as is correct. The last time the executive (the King) attempted ...
