Re: The Will of the People

It beggars belief, too, that those of us who were wise enough to have moved here many years ago with what we thought was a sufficient "nest egg" could have anticipated either the financial crisis, (which hit both savings and income very hard indeed), or the current mess. As Carol says - Br...

Re: Still on the Road Topic....

.....and of even less interest to those in the west, the stretch bypassing Hamezi on the Sitia/Ag Nik route is finally open. It has only taken about 10 years! Cuts the journey time by around 5 minutes, so not dramatic in that sense, but means avoiding around 30 hairpin bends - bliss. It was odd to s...

Re: Car Hire Insurance

Yes, they confirmed that existing policies are still valid - I'd asked because my husband has one. Having had a bit of a moan, the agent I spoke to confirmed that it was not only Greece which was now excluded - she mentioned Portugal as another. I wouldn't be surprised if exclusions were aimed mainl...

Car Hire Insurance

Just a note that iCarhireinsurance are no longer covering Greek residents - just discovered when I went to renew my policy.

Have taken out a policy with www.worldwideinsure.com - costs are comparable with iCarhireinsurance.

Please contact one of the rescue groups in your area for advice about rehoming this dog - offering to give him away may be fraught with danger.

Re: European flag

I can probably match you on this one, Bob! High for second altos as well. To be nit picky, there isn't a prelude to the ninth symphony; the last movement begins with orchestra only and then continues with chorus and soloists. The other 3 movements are purely orchestral.

Re: Health Insurance/IKA

We have, in the past, used Healthcare International, based in London. With Brexit looming, we may have to do so again! Premiums definitely more sensible than anyone else and they appear willing to cover "older" people.

Re: Departing/Entering Greece After Brexit

Thanks for the explanation, Carol and Warwick. So it seems that it's merely a coincidence that Greece has started to comply with this Schengen directive at the very moment the UK was due to leave the EU, and that the new scanning of passports at Heraklion is unconnected with Brexit? Even so, it giv...

Don't know of one in Amoudara, but if you are willing to travel into Heraklion then Ourania Tzatzaki is excellent. You will need to make an appointment, and please get the cat spayed! TSATSAKI I. Just had a call from this number - didn't answer as I was busy doing something else anyway, and checked the number. 0046-76289335. Thanks for highlighting this.

The height of stupidity

After days of repeated calls from Vodafone (Greek version), all of which I have ignored or blocked, having checked the number, I have just received a call from a Uk mobile, which I answered. Rapid Greek and call cut when I asked, in Greek, if the caller spoke English. Caller id; Vodafone again. Anot...
