Re: Sending a package to the UK

Greengibble now have a shop in the centre of Kalyves which will be easier to find than Litsarda for a stranger to the area. It's probably slightly closer/quicker, too.

Re: Insurance for a British reg van in Crete?

If you succeed in getting the insurance in the first place you'll have the same rigmarole when it comes to renewal. I'd also be concerned if having to make a claim especially if it caused personal injury or worse. I know a self-drive van can't legally be hired here so you can only rent a van along w...

All Warwick is saying is that one report is a verbatim repeat of the first one.

Seasonal reason hasn't spread to Kalyves. Three recent visits, latest mid-morning today, have been heaving with staff (three) and only me and 'Er Indoors making enquiries.

Re: Residence permits.

Warwick, you might be able to give guidance if folks can see a card to compare with their own. In your opinion, is the Residence Permit shown below one that needs renewal or doesn't need renewal? (Assuming the redacted parts are filled in.) ;-) http://creteforyou.com/otherstuff/!idcard.jpg

Re: Residence permits.

Last time I renewed mine at Vamos Police station it was 2-3 years out of date and that caused no problem.

Re: Residence permits.

.....I'm quite annoyed that we have to go through the rigmarole to get a permanent one,,...... No point in getting annoyed, Phil. If it has to be done, it has to be done however annoyed you get and you're the only one who'll be affected by that anger. Potentially, it'll nudge you a bit nearer to a ...

Strike

Almost became entangled in the strikers' demonstration in Xania this morning. In some ways a shame not to be involved as it was yet another Cretan social occasion with a bit of intermittent slogan chanting. All very laid back. http://creteforyou.com/otherstuff/pics/strikers/Strikers-20171214-6052.jp...

Yup, I read George's recent e-mail and discovered I still had the one he sent last year, too.

Re: Has anyone actually imported a car on moving over

Re: circulation tax changes we bought a new (petrol fuelled) car in March 2016, designated 1.6 litres but in reality about 1560cc and the tax is €156. The vehicle it replaced was just under 14 years old and designated 2 litres but was actually about 1950cc. One of several reasons for changing was th...

Re: One Drive on not-so-smart Samsung phone

Sadly Samsung have recently used Microsoft products as part of a deal which is why you now have excel, word etc available. What's wrong with having Word, Excel etc., and One Drive on a Samsung phone? The Office apps are available to suit just about any platform, including Android and Macs while One...

A pack of eight for £16 doesn't seem horrendous considering the price of, say, a single Mars bar. Same price per pack and per 8-pack as Tesco.

Re: Getting rid of coins

In our experience, when paying a bill at a supermarket, just hold out your pocketful of change in your hand and the cashier will pounce on it and grab whatever he/she needs in order to top up the till with 'shrapnel'. Our experience too but not limited to supermarkets. Quite often if the bill is €x...

Ah, bettyboo, but are you an ancient old bu99er like me who goes out when he wants to do something interesting and/or rewarding; paying bills doesn't qualify. Weather per se has never unduly concerned me, I don't mind being out in cold or heat or rain or snow (I'll go out with a camera in any of tho...

Re: Car tax for 2018

Or just do it on line. I'm happy to pay €0.50-€1.50 for the convenience of paying from my living room. It takes about two minutes whereas going to the bank even though it's only 250 metres away takes a minimum of 10-15 minutes if there's a minimal queue and could be much longer. Most years aren't as...
