Re: Buying a car in Crete

I've been hobbling rather than walking since Feb, Bob, when vertebrae problems were diagnosed but, after umpteen scans and treatments for various possible causes, three months of physio seems to have just about fixed the problem. On Friday the physio released me to start proper 'exercise' walks, enc...

My thanks to Jean. I may have time to organise another set during the next couple of weeks (but can't promise).

Re: Buying a car in Crete

The rental companies can be a good source. A few years ago I dithered for too long and missed out on a very good deal with Auto-Club (also Almyrida & Kalyves). I phoned to confirm yes/no a few days later than promised; Kostas assumed I'd decided against and sold to A. N. Other. Full history, pre...

Re: Buying a car in Crete

We bought a new car eighteen months ago from a main dealership, Xania. Delivery schedule was approx. three months. Dealer asked for nothing until he was given a confirmed delivery date. On that date the dealer phoned. "Your car will be here on xx/month; please pay €1000 deposit next time you ar...

Re: POST-BREXIT continuing healthcare

...4. If any new rules allow, self-insurance i.e. pay bills as they arise from ones own resources. Logically that is a possibility but I am not sure if it is really. The rules that allow us to live here talk about healthcare insurance not about being able to pay independently. The EU loves rules. W...

Re: Buying an apartment in Nea Hora

EOT are scanning letting sites like AirBnB and comparing the properties with their register in order to catch people who don't bother to register. Haven't things got a bit more direct than that? "The Treasury have begun looking for taxpayers renting real estate through electronic platforms lik...

Re: How do I get to Chania at Xmas?

Unless the fares are significantly different I'd try to book both legs with the same airline and make sure hold baggage is checked through Athens to avoid collecting baggage and re-checking it. I think that limits you to Aegean/Olympic and Ryanair Note that Ryanair do not offer full connecting flig...

Unless the fares are significantly different I'd try to book both legs with the same airline and make sure hold baggage is checked through Athens to avoid collecting baggage and re-checking it. I think that limits you to Aegean/Olympic and Ryanair since (I believe) easyJet don't fly Athens/Crete in ...

And one day there'll be a change of staff, maybe temporary, caused by 'flu or holidays and the new teller asks for your Passport which you produce. "I'm sorry sir but this is not the one on record." "Well, the manager knows me." "Perhaps, sir but he's out just now." ......

Re: iPlayer

Are you talking about internet access and being blocked from watching TV on BBC iplayer ,tvplayer.com and itv and channel four catch up because you are politely told you are not in the UK ? No; I not as old, stupid or technophobic enough to be unaware of the possibilities. When we bought our house ...

Re: iPlayer

Having seen the hassles people have had during the last 16 years I think our decision to not have TV when we moved here has been fully vindicated. Neither of us missed having it for more than a couple of weeks (during which time we were probably too busy to watch anything anyway).

PS I pay my bill using online banking on the day before it is due because it is not processed until after 17:00 on that day. I don't trust my memory so the day I receive the bill I go to my online banking and set up the payment to be made two working days before the deadline. That way I don't have ...

Re: Fly Screens

I imagine a decent tool shop here would have such screwdrivers. I'm not surprised that shops in the UK don't sell them as there can't be much demand; how many houses do you know in the UK that have fly screens? On the other hand the screws in the screens might be relatively common 'security' fitting...
