Always sunny??

During the summer especially I keep meeting people who seem to think we enjoy sun all year round? (Yes, I know it's sunny again today but it's a bit pale and watery looking.) Even on some of the forums despite threads about torrential rain and storms some people still seem to wear rose tinted specs....

Electricity supply

Isn't it the case that ΔΕΗ will still be the generator, distributor and maintainer of the electricity supply with the alternative suppliers, in effect, buying from them at wholesale prices before selling on at their own retail rate. ΔΕΗ will still control the physical s...

Head for heights

I've been told that when Margarita was on holiday in South Africa just a very few years ago she scrambled up mountain tracks built like very small scale xiloskala steps - about the height of a normal stair tread but only about 50 cm wide - logs pegged in place and backfilled with loose stones. In pl...

Word meaning

I've come across a cafe/taverna with the name "ΤΣΟΥΚΟΣ". (I don't know where the tonos is placed as it was only written in upper case). I suspect it means something. I couldn't go in and ask as the place was closed and I can't find the word in any of my dictionari...

Kalyves Visitors' Guide - Update

For anyone interested I'm including street guides showing shops, cafes, tavernas etc. for Almirida, Plaka, Vamos and Gavalohori in addition to the existing street map of Kalyves. Future plans are to add places like Kefalas, Giorgioupoli, Vrises but I won't be able to do that for this year's deadline...

Dublin/Crete flights

Hi Graham, I'm not 100% certain but I suspect there are no direct flights Dublin/Crete. I have done a lot of research into travel between the UK and Crete for my site http://www.travel.creteforyou.com and there are no all-year-round direct flights. During the summer holiday season there are many dir...

Painters

If you don't get any offers or recommendations try going to one or two local paint shops and asking them as they're likely to know all the local decorators. You'll propably find they'll quote prices as €x per sq. m., usually including materials. Greek friends nearly always advise me to supply the ma...

Kalyves Visitors' Guide

Last year I produced a 56 x A5 pages guide for visitors to our rental apartment near Kalyves. We are no longer renting out the apartment*. I don't want to waste all the research and effort that went into the booklet so I am planning to update it (and maybe expand it) with a view to selling a few cop...

Health Insurance

Sorry if this response is a bit late.

One potential problem is that many companies will not accept new applications for people over 65.
