It's also worth investigating transferring in Sterling and doing the exchange here. In my experience the banks here have always given better rates than UK banks. Some of our visitors here recently found the best rate at Bank of Greece ( not The National B o G) which beat allcomers. Our account is wi...

You'll also be able to keep it legally for six months, and then it could still be months or years before the police stop you and impound it. Don't know though if there could be any other repercussions, like a fine I know of a couple of cases where a fine topped €4k. This may have been because no an...

A friend of ours lives quite close to the bank and not far from a local night club. Also, he manages some tourist apartments next to his home. Frequently, people leaving the nightclub make a lot of noise and even indulge in racing their cars and motorbikes along the beach road, disturbing the touris...

Thanks for the warning, Dave; that's often the sort of stuff I cart about. It seems they're tightening up on all sorts of things. Certainly two, and I think all three of the beach cantinas, in Kalyves were heavily fined last week - €2k - €3k each for having tables & chairs on the beach and servi...

Why even open and read the e-mail? Things like that can drop "nasties" into your system without you knowing. All e-mail where I don't recognise the source gets dumped before it even gets downloaded to my system. Better ultra safe than sorry.

We've worked through Book 1 twice and it's not too bad if one puts in a bit of effort. As a result my wife's Greek is better than mine as she put in at least double my effort. We finished this book for the second time and, in anticipation of progressing, my wife bought Book 2. At our next lesson we ...
