I think it's also possible to remain a British citizen but to be officially domiciled elsewhere although, so I'm told, it's quite an involved procedure and, reasonably enough, there are strict limits on the amount of time spent in the UK. When I have time to spare I intend to investigate. Filippos.

Is that for the fully biometric ones? Are they were available yet?

Also, will we need one if we are fully resident outside the UK, own nothing in the UK and have no intention of ever returning?

Re: Passport Renewal

When you first arrive here you will need to register with the Consulate, ... ... What for? What am I missing here? I've never registered with the Consulate for any reason. Also, Passport renewal in the UK can be done in advance (up to twelve months, I believe) so you may be able to get a new 10 yea...

That's a relief, then. (As long as Crete is the 'right' island.)

... As to Champion and Lidl's having nicely marked, wide, parking bays - what has that got to do with skillfully parking a car across two or even three bays. Is it true that the white line should either go under the CENTRE of the vehicle or that the near or off-side wheels should be parked on it? N...

Yesterday (Saturday) I collected the cash, not a cheque, from our insurance broker for my window which was broken by a garage. (See the thread "A Greek car insurance tale".) Good news, John. One question. What is a cheque? I'm told the problems can arise if you need to make a claim as the insurers ...

Oddly, and happily, after eight months my car has received fewer marks whilst in car parks than any car I had in the UK. Judging by the height/position/type of most of the bumps and scrapes on our car the most likely culprits are "bull bars" as fitted to a wide range of agrotika and 4x4s ( very com...

Second hand cars here are generally not particularly good value because they hold their price very well. Cretans aren't usually into the British habit of "must have the latest model/new registration" or whatever. Often, a vehicle that's replaced is passed down to a child, on to a younger sibling or ...

I love jokes but there is a requirement that they are funny, which I've always thought was the point of them.

My response would have been the same whoever had submitted the post.

In my experience it is virtually essential to switch such a PC on and off a couple of times per day or it will simply grind to a halt Or invest in a small utility program like C(rap)Cleaner which I think will work with older operating systems. It clears out all the rubbish that accumulates on a PC....

Are you sure you don't mean Methuselah Filippos  Ken. Absolutely sure, Ken. Had I meant Methusalah I'd have said so. Methuselah allegedly lived for 969 years but didn't necessarily pre-date Moses. I did suggest to you a few days ago that you shouldn't put your own interpretation on my posts as...

Good point, which I'd forgotten, Jean. Blobby, you must have a tax number as it would be needed for the property purchase. A return will be needed even if it's only a "Nil". I'd act promptly because there are deadlines (set according to your tax number) for submitting the return and you'll be fined ...
