So far as I know there's nothing regular. In Apokorona I've seen, maybe, three a year usually in aid of a charity supported by foreign (usually British) residents. I have a vague memory of seeing one advertised recently in, I think, Gavalochori but it may already have happened.

1 hour Heraklion to Rethymnon, 1 hour Rethymnon to Chania. I can verify the last two times but not the first one. Warwick Leaving Kalyves at 05:30 it's 1hr 12m. to Iraklio airport. Filippos. P.S. It would be quicker but for the last few Km that twist down to Iraklio; some of those bends are tricky.

.......... what the import duty would be? Surely not £4000 (€5880). Don't bank on it! The Customs man could say, "This car cost X,000 Euros (when new) and I estimate the amount due on import as yy%" substitute "yy" with up to 80 and you'll get the idea. There's no formula; he mi...

Re: Car Prices

presenting myself to a dealer or second hand dealer with all the appropriate paperwork waiting to exchange cash whatever and drive it away. A point to bear in mind is that there are very few second hand dealers in Crete as there's been no need in the past. A few have started to appear in the last c...

In our part of Crete (and probably elsewhere) "Toyota" has become the generic name for agrotika (pick-ups). One hears things like, "My Toyota's a Honda/Mazda/Hyundai." I've seen a couple of Fords and Peugeots but everything else is oriental. Diesels are not popular with private m...

Mainly Japanese marques are at the top of the popularity charts. One doesn't see many Fords. Peugeot and Fiat are only moderately popular. Pick ups are almost universally Japanese with Toyota leading the way.

At least, that's what I see around and to the East of Xania.

Whether it's used privately or otherwise you will need the boat to be licenced plus you will need a licence to fish (yes, even with a rod). Not only that but everyone on the boat, whether fishing or not, must have a licence. Port police are the people to contact for full information. The fishing lic...

Texnokpeta AE a.k.a. Mixalis Farantakis (Owner)

On Souda Avenue, the main road between Souda and Xania (where most of the main dealers are). On the right (I think) as you head into Xania.

There are some pictures in the D. Telegraph showing the devastation. The news item is here:

A few lines down there are links to a video and some stills.

It looks so terrible it's hard to believe.

I think the motives here are more to do with greed. It seems the hope of these people, if they can be so described, is that they will subsequently be able to develop - i.e. build on - the land where forest has been destroyed. It's supposed to be re-forested but ... ... ...

There have been reports last night and this morning of 40+ deaths on the mainland in fires the authorities believe to be arson. If the culprits are apprehended they should, in my opinion, be charged with murder.

We get fires every year and this year it seems there's been a higher number than usual. Sadly, there have been fatalities, too.
