Re: car trailers

As far as I'm aware it's not a new ruling. It's several years since I checked but my understanding has been that a trailer and the towing vehicle always have to be registered together as a pair.

Re: MOT time again!

Where is the nearest test centre from Kalives? Last test my car went through was very simple. I took it for a pre-test check with Babis (the vehicle accessory shop opposite the Armenoi road petrol station). Took the car to him 09:00. "I'll phone when it's ready or if there's anything expensive...

Re: MOT time again!

The quickest way to it is leave the highway at Mournies junction and at the first set of lights (before Lidl) make an illegal 'U' turn and it's 100m or so on the right.

(In case anyone misunderstands that is tongue in cheek.)

Re: noise

Does he sell this furniture or is it for his own use? If it's a commercial enterprise find out if the premises are approved for the purpose and does he have the necessary licence to trade. If he's renting a villa close to others I'd hazard a guess that he's more likely to not have the relevant permi...

Re: dog barking at night

The randy cats are much, much worse. After many years I'm still surprised (almost) by the volume of noise emitted by a small bundle of fur. But that's life in Crete; there are so many good thinks that compensate handsomely.

Re: dog barking at night

Believe me, you'll get used to it. When we first arrived we were surrounded by neighbours with (mainly) yappy dogs and a few deep throated ones. They're doing their jobs of alarm raising when non-householders get close. The snag is, many of them include passing cars, cats and pine martens etc., as p...

Re: Driving

I had to obtain an International Driving Licence (mine from RAC) which cost not very much. All I remember is that it was mid 90s and could only have been for here or France but I don't have a clear recollection of which - no need to remember - but I think is was required for Greece.

Re: Kaolin Clay

I put "Kaolin clay Crete" into Google and the very top result was this site. It's a Cretan pottery near Heraklion. Informative about clay; has all contact details. They should be able to direct you to a supplier but so might a local potter.

.....S'pose I could be delicate and dip the bread in the oil lurking at the bottom of the salad bowl..... Wot? Doesn't everyone do this? Andrew Usually, yes but sometimes moderated according to the company; some people are very pernickety. Dipping bread in the salad bowl (especially when full and b...

Re: Moving to crete and self employed

If you plan to do electrical work and work legally you'll need to get Greek qualifications whatever your UK ones. Whether or not the same applies to plumbing I don't know but it will be no surprise if it does.
