Re: Places to visit

The original 'war museum' in Askyfou was run by an elderly chap over 40 years ago Mixos. I doubt if he is still going, but one never knows with these old Cretans! I was at the museum almost exactly two years ago and was being operated by, I believe, the old man's son and his granddaughter (the old ...

Re: Photos (a few more)

Its hard to tell from fillipos photo but unless the road had been surfaced since I walked down it 3/4 years ago you definitely wouldn't want to attempt it on a road bike Warwick, but on a nice little 250cc trail bike it might be fun. When I drove down there last year (October) others on the outing ...

Re: Photos (a few more)

I must admit, Photo 30 did get me thinking how many of those bends I could overcook on my motorbike ........ I've just looked on Google Earth and starting with the first bend of that section of the road between Kallikratis and Kapsodasos, there's a total of 27 hairpin bends with more than a few les...

Re: Photos (a few more)

Thanks, Peter, you may well be right. The photo was taken late in October last year and most of the day was pretty miserable. A group of us met ............. I was 'tail end Charlie' so didn't pay much attention to the route . I do remember seeing a couple of road signs for Frangokastello: I probabl...

Re: Photos (a few more)

If anybody is viewing the photos using Firefox browser on a wide screen display,.... it is better to use full screen mode. F11 to enter and exit this mode............. I knew there was something I meant to suggest; thanks Warwick, especially as many people don't know that use of F11 (which I think ...

Re: Greek debit card

Last year I asked at Piraeus bank if I could use my credit and debit card when on holiday outside Greece. At that time I was told I could withdraw cash at ATMs on the same basis as here and spend up to €600 daily in shops, restaurants, hotels etc., and I could request a higher limit if required. Mor...

Re: Photos

Where is the pier? I don't believe I've ever seen one on a Greek island. Well spotted, George. It ½ qualifies as Greek, I suppose, as it's Limassol. (Google Earth 34°40'16.50"N / 33° 2'38.51"E is as close as I can get). About 100m west on the side of the marina is an excellent fish restau...

Re: Apokoronas Photographic Group - "Through the Lens"

For anyone not entirely familiar with the area the sailing club is at the extreme eastern end of the Harbour/marina beside the access point to the harbour wall that enables you to walk along the wall to the lighthouse.
Until I learned better I used to think of the marina as 'the inner harbour'.
