Re: Generation G, the world’s biggest brain drain continues at a scary rate

...I have no doubt that the debts (or most of them) will be written off soon enough (despite what Schauble says)... I wouldn't bank on that. There is not a finance minister in the Eurogroup that can go back to his constituents and tell them that he has loaned €X billion to Greece and they are not g...

Generation G, the world’s biggest brain drain continues at a scary rate

Despite his many faults, everything Varoufakis said about the economics of the bailout programme was correct. The austerity regime drove Greece into a debt deflationary spiral from which it cannot recover on its own. At least the IMF has admitted it got its predictions wrong. The governments of the...

Re: More Questions from the newbies

Yes, thought about it and would rather someone else do it but the Mrs does not trust anyone with some of the stuff she wants to bring (nothing to do with cost). Will go to the Greek embassy too and check how to bring my own car at a later date (can't afford to risk anything to go wrong with this one...

Re: More Questions from the newbies

One visit to the Notary! We live at the Notary and the Lawyer offices :D we had that many lunches out with them, it has become a frequent and almost daily ritual to go to Heraklion and have lunch with them. We just want the contract signed so we can start. Taxman both on the Island and Athens causin...

Re: More Questions from the newbies

I would be interested in finding out the company you are using as I am building my own house and was going to install air source heat pump running under floor heating and also switchable to heat the pool as the weather gets better and we don't need the house heating but the pool is still too cold t...

The Greek Bureaucracy

24 days spent, followed every advice given about purchasing a property, tried to avoid every pitfall mentioned anywhere, drank half of the island raki and yet, still no contract and have to wait for more paperwork. We had the keys from day one but we are unable to start anything as it's not ours off...

Re: More Questions from the newbies

Thanks Andrew and Warwick, I am going through the same thought process at present to cover all angles before I meet with the Samsung guys again. Yes, it is Air to Water, will use combination of radiators and underfloor (future) and will also share the Tank with the Solar panels. If I go for it, Sams...

Re: More Questions from the newbies

Looking at installing the Samsung new EHS technology (it uses Air ambient temp.) I have seen many data to support their claim that it delivers 4kWh energy output for every 1kWh input. They have an offer now that makes the unit I am loooking at just over 30% cheaper than in the UK! Trying to find out...

Thanks Andrew, please feel free to challenge anything, that's why I ask
We should be able to tell soon when I get the fixed price quote I asked for against a specific scope of work.
Cheers

Re: More Questions from the newbies

Had meetings with Civil Engineer and builders today and the prices are as follows: €65/cubic meter including Pump and labour. You can get it as low as €50 depending on strength (only two types mainly available). €230 min to €280 for reinforced all in for the Shell. These prices are today's prices Fe...

Re: Electric supply

Or go to any branch of Germanos. Andrew And what a great idea that was. My new mate Manos had the answer to all of what I was looking for. After leaving me to muddle through all the questions in broken Greek. He answered all in a wide Yorkshire accent. On top of what you already discussed and menti...

Re: Electric supply

Why not ask the hotel if you can piggy back into their system ???? I have been using their wifi with their very secured 12345678 password which seems to be the same for every wifi round here (and for those who have some additional security, their phone number usually works). I am sure it will get s...
