So me and my pet, Ard, came home on Friday, set up the computer and new router and all was hunky dory, nice fast internet connection, until early evening when it went down and stayed down. Yesterday it was clay-tablet time, all day, with occasional disconnections (it came back when I rebooted). Two ...

The (Other) Internet Cafe Rethymno Friday What really hacks me off is that this is supposedto be a posh router. When I signed up last year for the ADSL connection there was a special offer on, 50 euros worth of free hardware of various kinds. Being a wise virgin I opted to upgrade the standard-issu...

Oops. Wish I'd read all that before storming into OTE this morning, telling them I've been unable to connect to internet for two days.and demanding a new router since their rubbish router was clearly at fault (it was really, once before). Hoist by my own petard, now waiting for my city techie to do s...

Crete farmers are due to have their postponed meeting with the Rural Development Minister at midday on Thursday, so maybe they're planning a preliminary reminder of their muscle? If the meeting doesn't go well I would definitely expect more hassles on the highway.

Farmers: Carolina?

There seem to be some dramatic developments today in the dispute between the Cretan farmers and the government - more tear gas and injuries at Peireas, back in Crete local government offices closed, public buildings occupied, a new blockade on the ethniki - but I for one am struggling to understand ...

So things turned ugly this morning in Piraeus port where riot police were waiting when the ferries docked. situation. Crass, or what? The maladroitness of Greek politicians never ceases to amaze me. When I used to come here on holiday (admittedly in high season with more facilities available) I never even bothered to pre-book a car. My memory is that the airport car-hire offices were open as long as there were flights – i.e. all night – and I used to just shop around, making sure that I could b...

My second thank-you of the day to The Friendly Site and a big kiss for Kilkis. I followed your instructions to the letter re the refund, and have just had an email from easyjet saying they've refunded me the money. They didn't even ask for boarding pass originals. It worked a treat, so cheers, Warwick
