PaulH This is why these forums can be so emotionally charged. The threads can take on a life of their own as people try to justify their previous comments. I initially took umbrage with RIC because he used the words "condescending" and "patronising" to describe a guy who appeared...

Both, Firstly, you each give examples of people you know and loved and then wish to transpose those same sentiments onto someone you do not know, have never met and the way things are going will probably never meet. None of us know whether Joe was asked if he wanted help from XDB but you both appear...

Filippos, Good to read your words again. You're right of course, XDB could have said in his post "I suggested to Joe ... .." but just because he didn't does not make his comments patronising or condescending. What's more, we don't know that he didn't ask Joe, only that he didn't share that...

Perhaps it was the quickness to see the negative, rather than applaud the positive which struck home with me. The older folk I know over here are proudly independent and ri...

Jim,

I know, I feel like such a traitor, but why not annoy a wider audience?

This is my first foray onto this forum and I've got to say I'm surprised at some of the comments made re John / XDB's post. I read the same request on the BIC site and thought, "what a decent guy." I now learn from Retired in Crete (RIC) that XDB may have sold Joe a house which had problem...
