You might see if you can test with a Wireless range expander first. Basically it picks up a weakish signal and rebroadcasts it more or less full strength. You say you can see a signal so there is a reasonable chance. I've seen them priced anything between 40 to 70 euros. Again go for N technology. S...

MSE Version 2.0.657.0 Date Published: 12/16/2010 (from the Microsoft website) Might have been a bit difficult to include something published in mid-December? Warwick But not difficult to add a footnote onto a web page and that hasn't been done. And the conclusions were invalid even before the state...

Yes and did you read the MicroSoft Security Essentials comments from the page you pointed at? The first on asks why they are testing in Jan 2011 version 1 when version 2 has already been out and installed for week on the commenter's machine. It's a fair question especially if you are going to use th...

Agreed 300%

What someone needs from an antivirus to be safe will differ depending on what else you have running such as NoScript or perhaps a physical firewall and the specifications of those.

It depends too on the actions of the user

There is no one answer as to what is best or better

Re: Firefox

[ To give you some quantitative information NO threats made it past AVG, Trend and Norton. 3 % got past Kaspersky, 10 % past PC Tools, 13 % past Microsoft and 19 % past McAfee. Warwick That is what you posted, "NO threats". Potential threats are not a problem unless they become active act...

Google "7-zip" (make sure it is the seven hyphen zip as there are similar sounding scams about)), It is free, works with zip files and rar files (winzip doesn't handle rar) and is just a good all around performer

What it does it claims back memory that is no longer being used by a program and so frees it for use by other programs. It starts with your machine and just works, showing the amount of unused RAM just to the right of the date/time in the bottom corner. It is sometimes quite informative how much is ...

In your original post you didn't say "they infected" you said "they got past" the particular brand. Well if 13% of the tests were email carried viruses of course they got past MSE because it is not checked. AVG checks emails as they come in MSE does not But both check all files a...

Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't check incoming emails. It's reckoned as being redundant as just about all Web Mails run an anti virus program and any virus that is found irrespective of how it got in the always running resident shield should catch. It does check ALL active programs and data so...

http://www.majorgeeks.com/CamStudio_d4646.html

its a reliable source (Major Geeks) and as it is free you can at least see if it does what you need

The write ups on CamStudio itself are quite good, some don't do sound as well, this one does.
