Re: Praise for the Greek government

It is interesting that the first action Greece took was to close schools

Actually their first action was to ban all the carnivals (on the 27th of February I think?) which was very early in the game.

Re: FULL Lockdown Monday 23 March 6a.m. in Greece

As far as i know the last case in Crete was detected on the 6th of April so the figure you're quoting is not going to change until they have a new case.

Re: 36V lithium battery

You could start here: https://www.batteries.gr/en/replacement/manufacturer/black-decker-battery.html If you don't find it in the page call them and talk to them. English should not be a problem. Otherwise, model and battery number will help. If you can get it in Greece you'll probably find it throug...

Re: CoronaVirus now confirmed on Crete

When you look at it from that viewpoint it turns out that COVID-19 increases the probability of dying at any particular age by the same amount for all age groups. It doesn't really discriminate.

That's an interesting way to look at it. Have they come up with a percentage yet?

Re: Καλή Ανάσταση!

It made me wonder how the little Cretan fleets are doing.

Good question! Probably not too well. Had a chat with a fishmonger in Chania last week and he told me that business was really slow. And that's on the resale front. For wholesale, well, no restaurants will be buying anything.

Re: How do you deal with locals breaking quarantine?

I would have thought that Jean could make a pretty good case that the mountains are his normal residence? Maybe...but they're not on my tax return address. Actually, I have worked out that there are lots of places that I could go to from where i live with minimal chance of encoutering a police chec...

Re: How do you deal with locals breaking quarantine?

How many folk on here remember 'Hoppy' Milne the developer?

I sure do, and I remember others too. That's why I wrote "Do you really think that it's a smart idea?" in an earlier post.

Re: How do you deal with locals breaking quarantine?

Jean, are you suggesting that civil code and quarantine breaches should be tolerated? I am not suggesting anything. Don't drag me into an argument that I am not part of. You are dead set on reporting people, don't speak the language so I am telling you how you could do it. This is the last I'll say...

Re: How do you deal with locals breaking quarantine?

Well, if you call 112 someone will speak English and they should also know your exact location (because that's the way this emergency phone number works). Tell them your problem. I personally would not do it but I probably have lived here a lot longer than you and intend to spend the rest of my life...

Re: How do you deal with locals breaking quarantine?

Jean, the breach of quarantine is that they clearly transit to/from outside of their residencies for no essential purposes. If they were to do their works inside of their primary residency - this is allowed I would think. But driving to a shed each day in groups? So it cannot be classified as outdo...

Re: How do you deal with locals breaking quarantine?

So if I understand correctly you want to report people related to your landlords to the police for possibly breaking the emergency Covid-19 laws? I stressed 'possibly' because you don't know what's going on. Do you really think that it's a smart idea?

Re: FULL Lockdown Monday 23 March 6a.m. in Greece

I'm not sure the statement about unnecessary movement "if found outside of the prefecture of residence" is correct. This is the only mention of prefecture. I was looking at the Greek text in the paper which says "«Στις περιπτώσεις που θα διαπιστωθεί άσκοπη μετακίνηση, εκτός του νομού...

Re: FULL Lockdown Monday 23 March 6a.m. in Greece

This was expected. Note that the doubling of the fine and removal of license plates applies only to cases where unnecessary movement is found outside of the prefecture of residence. I am not sure how this going to play out with foreigners who are staying here without residence permits or proof of re...

Re: Important Announcement Regarding movement pemits

Has the requirement to travel with an SMS only permit come into effect yet or can we still use a paper copy?

Definitely no change as of this morning. I have the feeling that the government will tighten things up before Easter but that might also be in the form of higher fines for non-compliance.
