Our neighbour did a bit of lateral thinking. Our local Greek butcher makes his own sausages and consequently has a suitable machine. Our neighbour downloaded a recipe off the Internet, bought a kilo of minced pork and played about with the recipe making up little patties. When he had got it to his s...

Slow? Slow? Don't know what you are complaining about. There are some areas where they have got the waiting period down from 20 years to 10 years. Now that's what I call an achievement. To be fair we got a line in less than one week but it took over six months to get ADSL. Our neighbour also got a l...

The dodgy copies of XP were all corporate versions (because they don't need registering after 30 days). When M$ caught up with some of the dodgy licences they put a nag on the screen about it being a non legit copy. I presume the "nag" you are referring to is the licence verification tool...

I'm not 100 % certain but if you can get hold of somebody else's English installation disk you might get away re-installing the English version from that but using the authorisation code that came with the Greek installation. I am not sure if they bother recording which codes are issued with which v...

Does your laptop mention the word "Centrino" anywhere? For example a sticker on the case, on the packaging or in the manual? If it does then your laptop has the capability to talk wirelessly to the modem. Why not reverse the situation. Connect the desktop to the modem with the cable and us...

I know of one person who was in a similar position. They moved out to Crete only to find the house wasn't finished. The builder pleaded cash flow problems stopping him getting necessary materials and told them that he would finish it quickly if they paid him the final payment immediately. Unfortunat...

I don't know for certain but it looks like the domain name is still owned by somebody but the site is no longer hosted by anyone.

...The first problem is that UK phones have a BT 431A plug, whereas in Crete and most of Europe they use the American RJ11 plugs. It is possible to buy an adaptor from a BT type plug to an RJ11 socket which is fine for some modems, but that brings up another problem... Many modern UK phones also ha...

Most domestic supplies do not have a surge protector in the consumer unit or in the meter connection. You could ask to have one fitted but typically they do not. There is usually main fuses, in case you exceed the supply capability, and an RCD, in case there is leakage to earth on any device. Neithe...

Not specific to the question but a related issue. I sent a number of people e-cards this Christmas. I don't mean the ones where you log onto a web site and the site sends a card on your behalf. I mean a .exe file that I attached to my email. When the receiver opens the .exe it displays an animated c...

...Those 14 days were never official they just happened... I have a strong feeling that last year they were actually official. I cannot remember for the life of me why, perhaps to do with strikes, but I feel sure that the government extended the deadline. I haven't heard anything similar this year ...
