Mutley I agree entirely. The state of UK consumerism is particularly depressing when I return from Crete. Today's particularly stupid example of idiocy is the company HIRING OUT designer handbags for £20 per week, so that you can impress your friends with a new name every week. For goodness sake! I ...

As a postscript to this request, said friend tells me that ordering by telephone from Plaisio (Athens, I think) was a very pleasant experience and thet an English speaking girl helping her through the order couldn't have been more helpful. One drawback-they wouldn't accept a UK credit card and she h...

Just for the record, Filippos is a kept man - living off his wife's pension!!

He is, however, very old.

Xania hospital have seen a telephoto lens as deeply embedded before ( photographers are a kinky lot ) but never sideways. I take exception to that remark. Besides, telephoto lenses are far too expensive to risk that happening to them. On second thoughts, some of my erstwhile colleagues...........

External Hard Drives

Does anyone know where a friend living in Paros can obtain a reasonably priced external HD for her PC? She does get to Athens occasionally, but would prefer to buy on the internet & have it delivered. I have given her a link to Thomann.de who have a website in English, but the one I picked out o...

You can download some Greek music at eMusic.com. They have a selection of modern artists like Despina Vandi (well I like her), plus Theodorakis, and some Rembetika. The downside is that you have to subscribe to eMusic, and the cheapest rate is around £8 per month for 40 tracks. There is nothing stop...

So your time poring over a hot PC today hasn't been wasted, Paul. The more I know about computers (still not much) the more I doubt that they are as logical as they should be.

I would love 2 monitors, but on my Mac, not the PC.

They make detailed work in Photoshop a doddle.

Well done gang, we got there in the end. The second monitor (we don't have one, by the way) was mysteriously enabled.
No nasties were found, which is also good news.

Thanks for allowing me to get back to the washing.

Yes, it does sound as if there is more screen area than is actually showing. We tried the F11 trick, no luck there. There is also no trace of the start up page hidden anywhere. At one point during our ferreting about, we appear to have two video cards(NVidia). We also have a slightly complicated set...

I agree with what Jean said, first action is restore back to a time prior to it occurring. If that solves it great! It didn't, sadly Certainly sounds like there is a nasty in there. Go in (safe mode) and check your home page, (Tools and Options then General tab) if thats been changed then there is ...
