Re: First Major Rains...

Get ready for some more starting during the night and through tomorrow. Red alert weather warning . Watch the projection at the bottom of the article. It looks like it is hitting Crete pretty square on this time. Thunderstorms and hail predicted again. Warwick Thankfully, nothing compared to the gr...

Re: Mask or no mask

I was in Chania all morning and estimate about 40% of the people outside were wearing masks, inside shops about 90%. Still many seem to be wearing them on the chin.

Re: Mask or no mask

Simple self rule for me - always wear a mask wherever I go. Or if you prefer, just follow the crowd, I was in Lidl today and a lot of people think that to wear a mask properly, is to place it under the chin, obviously the chin being the most vulnerable part of the face

New satellite receiver

Looks like my ol’ 11 year old technomate satellite box has decided to join the local scrap heap. I contacted technomate to ask for a recommendation replacement but the model recommended is not currently for purchase. Research revealed that the Octagon sx88 is a good cheap replacement, does anyone ha...

Re: Residency

I had to show that I had a minimum of €4000 in a Greek bank account, have private health care and was charged an outrageous €1. You were ripped off, we paid €1 for the two of us. Maybe because they saw that was my daily interest, was the reason for the whopping charge, but no worries, I shall retur...

Re: Residency

“ The cheap (02 plate £700) Mini I bought has performed superbly and I’m thinking may be worth importing?” Your trip all looking good. Once the boring Ancona ferry trek out of the way it’s Greece and Crete all the way. Keep the car for up to 6 months, no longer, sell scrap or whatever but buy a Gree...

Re: Residency

I did it a few years back and it took 72 hours from door to door. It was quite tiring and I only had a few stops to kip in the car. If I done it again I would plan to stop in Italy for a mini holiday, oh and I would book a cabin on the ferry rather than lay on the floor, I was on a budget. I woke at...

Re: UK car to Crete Import cost?

If the car is only worth £1500 max, is it really worth driving all the way back and then fly back out again. What if the owner only gets £1000, the cost of the trip back and a flight would surely not be worth it. What if it’s not sold immediately? nothing is gained in my opinion.

Re: UK car to Crete Import cost?

My latest idea is to try and find a Greek registered car for sale in the UK... This might work... Or buy a Greek registered car in Crete. Car.gr or Supercars in Chania https://supercars-chania.car.gr/cars/ which I highly recommend. They speak perfect English and are genuinely nice people. You could...

Totally agree, for many reasons I first pointed out. You live here, you have a Greek registered car, not to obey any law, but for simplicity. If anyone returned to the UK permanently, I’m sure they wouldn’t take their Greek car with them to use in the UK, be darn right silly.

Re: UK car to Crete Import cost?

Possibly a lot more than your car is worth, maybe things have changed but someone I knew had it done at cost of €2,500. I personally would sell the car in the uk and buy a car in Crete, the paperwork to buy here is easy, you would be better off in a smaller car (especially in Chania) and of course t...
