Re: Life with a pacemaker

Just had my 3-month check. In with surgeon only a few minutes while a very impressive machine did its thing. Result was a booklet of a vast range of measurements of which only one was intelligible to me - current estimate battery life 11.5 years! Was told that it takes 6 months for the bruising to c...

Life with a pacemaker

Does anyone have a pacemaker and can advise me what I can do and what I can't do? The only restrictions I got from the junior doctor at Irakleo hospital was not to use a microwave and not to keep my mobile phone in my shirt pocket. Are there any more restrictions I should know about? Most useful web...

Has anyone tried Command-Picture-Hanging strips? How easy are they to remove from the wall to re-position the picture?

I had the text as a Word document having copy/pasted from Facebook (which did not translate it).. The resultant Google translate is not good. I need to try to learn more Greek!

Re: Anyone teaching Greek in Platanias/Chania?

1. Unless you are a linguist, it will take longer than a few months in summer to learn Greek 2. There are many online courses, one of which may offer a starter session. Many are brilliant but take some time. Learn the alphabet and letter combinations so you can give a good try to words 3. My observa...

Re: Cicadas-love em or hate em?

To me, they speak of Crete - at times wonderful and at other times frustrating! I had a cicada that used to attach itself to my balcony wall and sing away regardless of what I was doing. I like to think it was the same one every day and we became friends in that we tolerated each other. Not here thi...

The ball bearings in a maze thing

This for elders! One of the many cheap toys we had years ago was the ball bearings in a maze. It was esy to get one "home" but much fun trying to get another in while keeping the first one in. I woud like to "surf the net" to see if anyone still sells them. But what were they cal...

Re: avacados - help please

Thanks Ying Yang. I'll give it a try. Sounds good as mid-morning snack or supper. Bob: You remind me of an uncle's ritual during the colder days. A glass of rum, brown sugar added and then the poker that had been in the fire was dipped in. Sipped with much relish! But, as a 12-year old, I wasn't inc...

Re: Hose pipe ban ?

I am careful over the use of water. When I thought about car-washing that uses lot of good drinking water but, I expect, less than car washes, I wonder whether car washes use "normal" water or do they have a special supply?

They say change your mattress after 8 years

I have had my mattress for over 8 years and, according to reports in the press, I should change it. I do sometimes wake up with aches and pains but have no difficulty at all in falling to sleep.

Can anyone recommend a supplier in Chania and tell me how much I should budget? It's a double bed

What's happening to my water supply?

When I turn on the cold tap at the sink, there is a dribble, then a bit of spluttering, a bit more dribble and finally normal flow. The water comes from the mains. Also, taking a shower is a bit dodgy when cold water pressure fluctuates. Still good quality water, no chlorine smell like they get in C...

Re: avacados - help please

There are hundreds or recipes on the internet that use way-out ingredients. I posted here because normal people may well have normal recipes that don't include stuff only available in US or UK
