Re: Cicadas-love em or hate em?

To me, they speak of Crete - at times wonderful and at other times frustrating! I had a cicada that used to attach itself to my balcony wall and sing away regardless of what I was doing. I like to think it was the same one every day and we became friends in that we tolerated each other. Not here thi...

The ball bearings in a maze thing

This for elders! One of the many cheap toys we had years ago was the ball bearings in a maze. It was esy to get one "home" but much fun trying to get another in while keeping the first one in. I woud like to "surf the net" to see if anyone still sells them. But what were they cal...

Re: avacados - help please

Thanks Ying Yang. I'll give it a try. Sounds good as mid-morning snack or supper. Bob: You remind me of an uncle's ritual during the colder days. A glass of rum, brown sugar added and then the poker that had been in the fire was dipped in. Sipped with much relish! But, as a 12-year old, I wasn't inc...

Re: Hose pipe ban ?

I am careful over the use of water. When I thought about car-washing that uses lot of good drinking water but, I expect, less than car washes, I wonder whether car washes use "normal" water or do they have a special supply?

They say change your mattress after 8 years

I have had my mattress for over 8 years and, according to reports in the press, I should change it. I do sometimes wake up with aches and pains but have no difficulty at all in falling to sleep.

Can anyone recommend a supplier in Chania and tell me how much I should budget? It's a double bed

What's happening to my water supply?

When I turn on the cold tap at the sink, there is a dribble, then a bit of spluttering, a bit more dribble and finally normal flow. The water comes from the mains. Also, taking a shower is a bit dodgy when cold water pressure fluctuates. Still good quality water, no chlorine smell like they get in C...

Re: avacados - help please

There are hundreds or recipes on the internet that use way-out ingredients. I posted here because normal people may well have normal recipes that don't include stuff only available in US or UK

avacados - help please

Many reports say avacados are good for people with type 2 diabetes but I just do not like them. Anyone with recipes to make this frui (vegetable?) palatable without adding too much sugar or carbs?

Secondly, how do you tell in the shop if an avacado is ready to eat?

LIC Clock is slow!!

The time displayed at the top of the opening screen is one hour slow. I had to check both computers and my phone to make sure - they update automatically.

Re: DRM and e-books

Thanks all. I've downloaded the app and can read the books on my PC. There are still difficulties in using e-books for study purposes and so I will buy the real books in future but not from Amazon. I still think that their imposition of DRM on e-books is wrong because the "buyer" is not to...

DRM and e-books

I have purchased from Amazon a number of books that are relevant to the study in which I am engaged. I tried to load them into Calibre software because viewing this type of book on a full size computer screen would be useful. So too would being able to cut and paste small quotes into my study docume...

Re: Easter 2018 at the Catholic Cathedral Chania

Thanks Bob.

Many years ago I was having a bad time and I found myself in the Catholic Church where the singing was so soothing. I also visted the church when there was no service and the atmosphere was again soothing.

May God bless your services and give you all special blessings.

Re: Spring Forward

I broke my clock by pushing the hour hand forward instead of using the button on the back. If I was in England, maybe I could get the gutter press (which paper is not in this category) to print an article blaming the government for carrying on this tradition and/or the clock manufacturer and/or the ...
