Re: Flying Crete - UK

We still don’t really know enough about this virus to speak with authority. The thought of herd immunity is frightening. There is also no guarantee at the moment as to how long any immunity would last. There could be people thinking they were immune after having the virus, yet spreading it liberally...

Re: Covid -links to sites with statistics

I think some of it depends on your insurance company Warwick. We do an annual insurance policy and renewed ours in February. At the time Covid 19 was not an issue, so our policy covers us for everything, including Covid 19. If you took out your insurance once Covid 19 was declared a pandemic, most i...

Re: Covid -links to sites with statistics

A word of warning...... Remember that it is more than just quarantine that can affect you when travelling. You also need to consider if your travel insurance is invalid if you are visiting a country against FO advice. - Very few policies cover such a situation. Certainly in the U.K, hardly any insur...

Re: EMPRESS OF THE SEAS

I bet there are plenty of cruise ships all around the world looking for somewhere free/cheap to anchor up right now!

Re: EMPRESS OF THE SEAS

This might explain what is happening with cruise ships at the moment.

Re: The Lotus Eaters

Yes, I read that yesterday Bob. I suppose it was Inevitable, as the area is full of expensive hotels and villas these days. The ‘next step’ is clearly to accommodate the super yachts, then maybe a helicopter pad etc! We feel fortunate to have spent a lot of time there when the local women still did ...

Re: The Far East

We spend a few days there every year. Sometimes there is a French yacht moored up in the bay, so I assume they are regular visitors at a similar time of year to us. It is a very special place. We know a German chap who spends two months a year on Kriti. He is a walker, so visits for a month in the S...

Be quiet Guy! - Have a nice time though.

Will you go down to the Nature Reserve at Xerokambos? We like the birds there in the Spring and Autumn.

Re: WD-40

Thanks Bob. We know all about getting tar on the car, but not about WD40 to get it off!
We have used diesel in the past but will give it a go, as we always have some WD40 to hand.

Re: Direct flights from the UK to Greece from 15th July confirmed.

It is a balance.....economy v health. As ‘shine on’ wrote, without people there will not be an economy. Sadly due to the pandemic people will lose their jobs. In the U.K. Boris Johnson wants everyone to go out shopping/eating/drinking to spend to help the economy. His latest plan is to get everyone ...

Re: Direct flights from the UK to Greece from 15th July confirmed.

I can’t help but think that will be the same with lots of flights Tim. We have all seen flights cancelled at the last minute recently. It is not easy for travellers who also need to book accommodation. I assume lots of ‘independent’ tourists will not take the risk off booking a villa/room ahead, jus...

Re: Direct flights from the UK to Greece from 15th July confirmed.

I read that as well Kookla. - You are correct. It was fact, not ‘fake news!’

The first flight from Bristol to Athens is due to take off tomorrow. The cost is £263 one way. The cost might deter some tourists, especially if it is a family, so more than a single ticket to purchase.

Rather like cutting off your nose to spite your face’ there then Jackdaw. - Sweating it out without air con, driving your car when it needs checking over and could cause an accident, not building your wall therefore not getting even more enjoyment out of your garden. I believe these things are for y...

Re: Another fine mess!

Three pubs have shut down in the U.K. today as they have had customers with Covid 19 over the weekend. Once people start gathering together, the virus will spread again. - It was socially distancing and not touching ‘public surfaces’ that slowed it down recently. Once there is an influx of tourists,...

Re: British hopes of summer holidays abroad quashed!

I think you missed the irony in Warwicks post Mike! Over twenty years ago, (whilst he was a student at Athens University) , a young friend from Hania asked me why youths from the U.K. go out for the evening in Greece and get drunk? He said that when he is at home, he and friends go down to the harbo...
