Scooby - Hudson - Geezer, All the suggestions you say have been investigated. I think (gut feeling) it is a fuel supply issue. But have also been advised it could be electrical ??? Thanks to all of you for your assistance.
Googled Jeep engine cuts out at Junctions and went onto pistonhead site. several people had similar problems and 2 main things are stepper motor and fuel tank cap.
Thanks phillyn. Fuel tank cap is very interesting... I was discussing this yesterday. Some cap have an air hole .. mine does not and when I open it there is an almighty blast.. suction .. type sound. ????
If your fuel cap does not breathe properly, it will create a partial vacuum within the tank itself which results in it trying to suck fuel back from the engine. If you are hearing a whooshing sound when you remove the cap after running the vehicle for a while then something is wrong. Try running without a fuel cap for a couple of days and if the car runs fine then the problem is the cap.

Don't try this in the UK.
1. It will rain, for sure. 2. The police will probably nick you. 3. Someone will pee in the tank. 4. Some yobbo will stick a rag in the hole and light it. 5. A passing traveller will use a syphon.
