Accountant and removalist recommendations

Postby SPDL » Sun Sep 24, 2017 10:19 pm

Right, time for something a bit more serious than capers and pomegranate molasses...

I'm looking for a recommendation for a good accountant in Chania or western Crete. I can speak some Greek, but it's nowhere good enough to conduct my tax affairs in. And I'll be continuing to earn a (taxed) UK salary. So, apart from being trustworthy and all the rest of it, I need someone who is used to dealing with English speakers with slightly odd financial affairs. Reading back over old posts, there was one particular accountant that everyone seemed to recommend but IIRC he's now retired? Anyway, recommendations here or over PM would be very welcome.

I was also wondering if anyone had any recommendations for removalists? I've found a few companies that seem to specialise in moves to Greece and Crete, but would appreciate it if anyone had any advice on which to choose (or avoid). We won't be taking over too much stuff - I doubt it would even fill a whole white van - and we'd be looking to move (from London) towards the end of November.

Thanks in advance!

Try George Atasalakis,
Tzanakaki 6
Xania

atsalak@otenet.gr

Very knowledgeable on UK tax matters as well as Greek. We've been with him since 2002 and there are several/many contributors to Living in Crete who use his services.
Excellent service at a reasonable cost.

I believe the accountant who has been recommended most on LiC is George Atsalakis in Chania and I am certainly not aware that he has retired. He is currently dealing with a full tax audit for me so I hope he hasn't. He certainly hadn't about 3 weeks ago when I last visited his office and there is no mention on his website about retiring.

Yes, I think you may be right - over the past few months I've been trying to do as much research as possible, so I've read as many old posts from here as I could, going back years, and I think it may well have been... hmm, a particularly good mechanic or car dealer that retired. I didn't recall correctly and sorry for the confusion!

Yannis, John, who ran a car repair business on the Omalos road has retired. A young guy has taken over from him and from what I have heard is also very good. I haven't used him myself yet but intend to the next time I need a service. That was discussed not long ago so you are probably remembering that thread. It is about 2 km from the national road junction on the right hand side immediately before a Silk petrol station.

Can't help with accountants, as I'm in the wrong area, but highly recommend Nomad for removals. Excellent service at both ends of the operation.

We used Nomad to move us out here five years ago and have continued to use them for smaller deliveries because we have found them to be friendly, efficient and professional.

We also use George the accountant in Chania, for the past five years. He came highly recommended and has not let us down.
Someday is now : )

I also recommend Nomad, they shipped out boxes for me when I moved & have since shipped a Jaccuzzi from the UK to here for me. They also "house moved" friends of mine from Bracknell to the Malia area 18 months ago.

Excellent, many thanks to all of you for your recommendations, looks like I'll be going with George and Nomad.
